How do stats get reset?

I've seen some people wearing things that are impossible to equip at their level. They say their stats got reset, how does that work?

 

If you scroll down on the first page you would see a few threads on stat reset.

Right now Jagex is resetting botted stats to pre-botted stats or level 1 in that botted skill. Any items worn related to the skill are still equiped.

It's unknown, to me, if they still retain the same bonuses when used, or will they be like P2P items on F2P worlds.

 

They are reset on certain accounts for botting, doesn't usually occur if the account is all botted.

 

imo, your sometimes lucky to get reseted and not just fcking banned.
