Hey, theres not really a best class, its worth trying a few out before you decide what one you enjoy. In terms of professions mining is up there with the most profitable at early levels, at higher levels pofessions arent that great money.

In terms of what server/faction to start I'd find one which has a high population and is in your timezone otherwise you may find the game a tad slow.

The thing about which class you want is that it depends what kind of person you are (generally speaking). What would you prefer to do, melee dps, range dps, healing or tanking?

If you're like me and like range dps and can't be bothered with healing or any of that balls then go for something like a warlock, hunter or mage. If you want to heal and do some range dps then go for a shaman, priest or druid (druid can also tank and melee dps). If wouldan't suggest being a tank on your first character, however if you want to tank eventually go for a melee dps class like paladin or warrior, level as a dps then when you get the hang of things think about tanking :)

It took me a few months playing different classes before I found 'my class' (<3 warlocks).

As for money making - jewlcrafting is a must, and then either something like enchanting, but I hear engineering will be awesome in cataclysm so maybe take that for secondary (you'll thank me later ;))

If you have any questions about anything then PM me and I'll be happy to answer. Hope this helps.

Well for your first character I'd recommend a dps class that can also heal. Thats pretty much shadow priest, shamans, pallies or druids. In terms of race I'd pick anything except draenei as their starting area is empty and boring :p

All class mounts come in 60% speed increases which your get at level 20 and 100% speed increase mounts which are aquired at level 40. Only the looks change, they dont really differ at all.

Yeah, I've always thought that the alliance leveling experience was more newbie friendly and overall more enjoyable though.

Ah nice, the patched are a bitch hey. Currently you need flying mounts to access some content in outlands/northrend, but you wont need those untill level 68+ I think. They come in 150%, 280% and 310% speeds and are easily bought with the money youll get from quests/dungeons.

That all may change with cata but theres no need to worry about flyers untill your a higher level.

Riding skill is just that. It's a skill; not a profession.

You have primary and secondary professions.
-Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Herbalism are examples of primary professions.
-Cooking, Fishing, and First Aid are examples of secondary professions.

You can only have up to 2 primary professions at one time, but are free to learn all of the secondary professions, which are listed above.

Theyre all pretty useless at low levels, pick up mining if you want to make some money early in the game but there isnt really any need for all that much money tbh. First aid can be pretty handy if you keep it leveled up though.
