    Population Overload

I'm a huge National Geographic freak.

Anyway I watched this show about how the world will over populate,

(We've been over populating since America was found)

Anyway the population rises by like 1 million or 1 billion or more a year (or something like that)

They say right now the population of The earth was 7 billion,(or something close to that).

They also stated that if our population keeps rising we will run out of space for housing, run out of food, and cities built on unstable land will begin to fall from the weight of the buildings we will have to build to house the rising population.

They also stated diseases will spread faster and easier, because of all of the people.

I will try and find a link to it,ah here it is

    http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/aftermath/4463/Overview

It was scientifically proven that the population will continue to rise fast, and like most Nat Geo specials,it scared me.

I just want to hear some opinions :)

    Population Overload

You're going to blame America for this?

    Let's compare this.

    China's population:
    1,324,655,000(as of 2008)

    America's population:
    307,006,550 (as of 2009)

    There's a HUGE difference.

This is very interesting :) also very interesting its a way of life & since day 1 generations have influenced this. Also life expectancy has risen I can only imagine the world in 100 years(This I'll see)/ 1000 years/10,000 years. They will most likely be populating other planets :)

    Population Overload

1 billion population growth in 1 year? What an absurd statement. There are currently, at this moment in time 7057559815 (7.05 billion) people on the earth. (http://ibiblio.org/lunarbin/worldpop)

There is absolutely no way we are growing that fast.

No, thats the population of the world.

Obviously, eventually we will have to find a more suitable method of accommodating the masses. I believe that high-rise flats and/or houses are the way to go. Why use up all the limited horizontal space when there is plenty of vertical space left.

By the time there are so many people around that diseases were inevitable, we would of found some form of cure for them.

This does not come as a surprise.. If the population is increasing now, why would it suddenly stop?

These 'facts' aren't as shocking as you may think..

You have many facts wrong like rawrasaurus pointed out. Your numbers are nowhere close. Please verify your information before making a topic. You aren't even sure if world population rising by 1 million a year or 1 billion. The difference between the two is humongous.

    Population Overload

You have some bad sources if thats the information you have. There are about 7 billion people in the world and about 300 million people in the USA. There really isn't anything we can do to regulate the population but put limits on the amount of children two people can have, or just kill off a bunch of people, but either option is wrong.

    Population Overload

USA is a very, very, very small factor in the population growth factor. Disregarding the fact that we have 300m people (les than 5% of the total population of the world), the birthrate in the US is much, much, much, much lower than that of several other nations. The main contributing factor to population overgrowth is birthrate, not total population,

    Population Overload

I've read somewhere that the rate of population increasing, in western countries, is decreasing due to families either having only one child or no children at all. Maybe it's due to women being "independent."

I know that Russia is, currently, in a population decline.
I don't know how credible my source is but here it is.
    http://geography.about.com/od/obtainpopulationdata/a/russiapop.htm

As for my first statement, I have no source. It's just something I remember from class.

Only a true idiot would resort to flaming in order to get their point across.

Populating other planets is easier said than done to the extreme. The funding costs will be absolutely phenomenal and will continue to be in order to provide upkeep.

Some time in the 1990's they predicted hotels on the moon by 200(4?). We are still a long way off. Technology may be advancing fast, but it's still a long wait until we truly understand and can explore space.
