How to make your computer faster!

Welcome to my guide on how to make your computer faster!​

Making your computer faster is a desire that most people have. I will be using three different programs to accomplish that goal in this guide. Some of them may not increase the speed as much as the other ones but they all will help. I will also be adding some helpful tips and my preference with your computers safety program at the end to further increase your computers potential.​

The first program I will be using is called "CCleaner." You can download this for free at the site listed below.

Just go to that link and click "Download" in the center of the screen. Once you have downloaded the file open it up and you will see the following page.



The program is rather easy to understand and use. Just decide which sections you want to scan through and then start or analyze it before hand to see how long it will take to clean. I suggest clicking all or almost all of the different sections to clean. I normally run this program about 1-2 times a week and it seems to do a great job keeping my computer fast.

The second program I am showing will already be installed on your computer unless you have a MAC. Just type "Disk Cleaner" in your search engine on your computer to find it and then open it up. A smaller window will open up and will quickly analyze to see how much space needs to be freed up on your computer, just let it load for a few seconds to finish calculating.



Once again select which files to run though (Check all or most of them preferably) and then start the cleaner up. This normally takes a little longer than "CCleaner" and doesn't seem to do as much for my computer but it still is helpful and does speed your computer up. I normally run this about once every 2 weeks.

The final and the most helpful program I will be using in this guide is "Disk Defragmenter." What this program does is it gets rid of all the extra and unused space between your files and then moves them around to speed you computer up with the extra space now available. Again this will already be on your computer so go back to your search box and type "Disk Defragmenter" and then start the program up.



This program will take quite a bit longer than the other two but really does the most for your computer. It has taken several hours for me after long periods of time but you can always tell the difference before and after you used it. I try to run this about once every week for the best results.

Security:​

Having the best security is vital to making your computer run fast.If you get an amass of "cookies" or "virus'" then it can slow down and even crash your computer. Here are two suggestions for safety with your computer.

I highly suggest using "Webroot Anti Virus" for your safety on and off the internet. It is a reasonable price per year and has saved me several times from virus' that I have gotten on my computer. Overall it is a fairly easy program to use. And their customer support is superb. I contacted them about a month ago with a question and received a reply within a few hours.​

Once you have purchased the software and installed it remember to set dates and times for it to automatically scan your computer for virus' and cookies. The program is fairly easy and the website has a guide to functioning it so I wouldn't go into that.

Another option for security that is quite good and also FREE is called "AVG." This program isn't as user friendly as "Webroot" is but I used it for several years and never had any major problems with it. TO start off go to this site:



To fully function this program read this short guide: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic67970.html . I did not write that but it was good and to the point. Overall AVG is a good program but lacks in a few features and isn't as user friendly as "Webroot."​

Extra Tips:

- If you use a laptop try to turn it off as often as you can, some times you can get into the habit of just closing your computer and putting it into sleep mode which is fine to do some times but can where down your computer a lot faster than just turning it off. You can also conserve energy by doing that which is always good for the environment.

- Whether you have a laptop or desktop and you think it's running slow go to the control panel and you can lower things like your resolution and other sound/visual effects that will boost your computer.

- If you minimize a program that your not using it actually makes your computer go faster than if all your programs are up but your just looking at one.

Thanks for the feedback. And yes going back to the factory settings and erasing your whole computers memory will work on speeding your computer up but you will obviously lose your information in the process.

Decent guide, but I've read similar article before.

Nice use of color, I liked that. You were also pretty good with the amount of pictures you had. Kudos for that. Grammar is pretty good, better than the average. The only negative I found was that it was maybe a tad bit short. Though that's completely subjective.

Basically, keep the layout, just be more informative.

Good guide.
You had good grammar, a good topic, good usage of pictures. The only negative that I could find was that I didn't like the colors you chose.
I think that it would be useful for you to put tips on things you can change on your computer to make it faster along with the program you suggested. I know that you can change the pictures, and system preferences and stuff like you suggested to speed up your computer. If you could (since this guide is a little short) add those things in details with pictures. I think that if you could do those things, this guide would be great.
Also do you reccomend any virus software that can help prevent your computer slowing down? I currently use norton which I am please with, but I have always wondered if there is something better out there.

I really liked this guide. It's original, looks good, and also has a great use of pictures. I haven't actually done the steps in your guide yet (just read them) So I can't really post feedback for that, but by the looks of it, it seems like it should work.

As for the content, I think that it's great. You go over many different ways to actually make your computer work more quickly/efficiently, and they all are explained well. I also found the Security/Extra tips very useful as well.

Like I have said before the overall guide looks very good color wise. The colors are nice, and the font also make the guide easier on the eyes/to read. Along with that the pictures are all useful, and look professional as well. Your grammar/spelling in the guide also looks up to par.

To be honest I really can't find anything I could suggest to make the guide any better. The only thing I could say is that at some times when I read the guide I got lost on what exactly I was reading about. By this I mean the information is all kind of bunched together, and maybe you could try categorizing the different main topics to make the guide a little more organized

Anyways I hope that this helps, and keep up the good work with your guides.
