What is death?

I think death occurs when the body is incapable of being "brought back to life" by drugs, medicines, or any modern medical operation. Death is when the body reaches the "point of no return".

 

That's a silly definition. Your "point of no return" moves with medical advances, which means that someone who would be dead 100 years ago would today be considered alive because they can now be revived.

The last time I checked, death is classified by no bodily activity. No brain, muscle, heart, respiration, pulse, nerve signals. When a body is uncapable of coming back.

 

would that be all of the above? Because like I said earlier, in open heart surgery, the heart and respiratory system, and I'm not 100% sure on this one, but the brain is stopped until the surgery has been completed. IF its all of the above, I'll check into it so don't quote me but I believe there has been cases of people having all of those signs but being revived.

 

Death is the opposite of birth.

I see death as the point where one cannot be revived

So the exact definition will change as we medically advance

But that's just my opinion.

 

Now even though Ive already posted this with my view of physical death, I'm curious as to whether were also going to group in mental death and brain dead patients.
It just seems that with brain dead patients, that should also be considered a form of death and end when the main a primary fact that makes you the living, thinking being dies off and you become just a simple collection of cooperative organs.

 

Consciousness is not a requirement for life though.

 

Well people believe that a coma is a form of death.. So his view of death could be considered death.

Death could be a mental death, where you can no longer respond to anything, make deliberate movements, or think. I would wish I was dead if I couldn't do any of the above, with no hope of being fixed.

 

True, when were talking about basic form of living, thus meaning just functioning with little to no cognitive thought. But when we increase that to a different for of living, the standard of humans that we hold ourselves to then truly unconsciousness can be considered a form of death.
But before i had just mentioned that they were braindead making them even more useless than a plant considering all they will do is waste resources and take them in while a plant will atleast contribute to society.

 

So technically they're still alive.

When were talking about absolute death, then yes they are still alive. As much as a virus is alive. Doing the basic processes and nothing more without any conscious thought. (Don't take this comparison to heavily since I'm not a virus expert lol)

But when we consider the thought of relative death then the situation takes on a different route.

No one exactly knows what is death. Do you people know where had u been before born? there u gonna be when u die! in my opinion

 

So are you saying that theirs a outer body waiting for a physical body before and after death? I'm not really sure about it, personally.
