The moderation that occurs in the IRC as of current is not good at all. People with power should not be allowed to abuse it or make up their own punishments. There needs to be defined codes of conduct and known punishments for breaking these. Banning people without these in place discourages newcomers to the IRC and ruins the only form of external chatting that really is allowed to be discussed anymore. There needs to be a step up.

I saw SMR closed the other thread that began debating on this...absolutely foolish because you're not allowed to dispute individual infractions in that forum, and there aren't any rules about discussion IRC consequences so..

But yes, isn't clash the only official IRC moderator? And admins have perms as well..

I believe we need a set of rules stickied.

All staff have perms in the IRC. A set of clear rules wouldn't be a bad idea, but really "Sythe.org rules apply" should be sufficient so long as people don't abuse their permissions.

Its much more lenient in there. Spamming isn't infractable for example unless you start flooding.

Sythe.org rules are forum rules. There is a much different atmosphere in a chat room. Forums are slow discussions, making moderating easy. You have time to think. Chat rooms are fast. There is no time to think about moderating and people do stupid shit and power gets abused a lot more. (From personal experiences)

The only time I've had to go to halfop was today, when I banned two ban evaders. Otherwise, the IRC is under control. The Sythe.org Rules apply in the IRC, with the exception of spamming.

Forums and chat rooms are very different and having one set of rules for both can't work well.

Again, the rules are pretty much implied, and 99% of the time, people are acting like they should. I don't exactly see why we need a set up rules for it.

Mainly to promote fairness and consistency in moderating which means less user complaining and more happiness for all.

You're just basing this on Draucia's feedback thread. He's the only person I've seen complain about something regarding it. Otherwise, everyone is happy.

Whenever I lock or move a thread, I will always give a reason why. The only "feedback" in that thread was a dispute about a decision made by a staff member; it belonged in the Dispute Forum.

To be honest, I think the usual Spam Forum Rules should apply - as opposed to just the regular Sythe.org rules. Flooding should not be tolerated, but random non-constructive conversation shouldn't be punished... I wouldn't go in there personally if we were only allowed to have in-depth and meaningful discussions - it should be a place where users can just relax and not be serious, like the old TC days.

I agree with ALT. It should have spam forum rules, not forum rules.

Even if only one person has complained thus far, it does not mean they are the only one that has been treated in an unfair manner and it does not mean that rules would not help.

    ^This.

I've been visiting the IRC for two times, I didn't like it, felt like newcomers are being ignored. People are only chatting with the persons they like.

To be honest, this is completely untrue, we talk to anyone who joins, the only way i could see this happening is if people we're already having a conversation and you join and try and change the conversation.

The IRC isn't just for talking, once its completed, it'll be a fully functioning place to trade. Okay yes, the IRC is quiet at times, because you're not staying! people idle because no-one is talking, if you stay and you talk, you'll get a response.

On-topic.. I think Spam forum rules would fit well with the IRC, except flaming. But i also think new IRCMods would make a difference.

Not true, I joined in and first things I've said was Hello, how is everyone doing? I got zero response and the talking about the current subject was already going went on. I was reading that and tried to give my answer on it, but still got ignored. That happend twice, that's enough for me so I deleted the whole IRC shit.
