This is why I used the Pinyin style writing for Cantonese, because he won't be able to translate it, or it will be very hard for him to translate that style I just wrote. This is the true test!

Well he sort of can, but it would be hard for a program or whatever to find that will work. I think I messed up on a few words, but some people will be able to tell.

Apparently if your bilingual at a young age your smarter in the long run. My dad knew 3 languages fluently by the time he was 12. Crazy. I've attempted french and german but I pussied out, too difficult...

That's Mandarin, please specify next time if it's Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese Chinese or some other dialect. It gets really annoying when people say "I can speak Chinese", sure you can speak Chinese, so can someone that can speak some other dialect of Chinese, you speak Mandarin Chinese and the other guy speaks Cantonese Chinese, but you're saying you can speak Chinese and so is the other person, if you spoke to each other, you two probably won't understand each other very much or not at all depending who you're. There's times where two people understand each other, but can't speak it, but that's sometimes hard to find.

No, I believe there's a slight difference. You're using Pinyin, which uses the Mandarin style. Cantonese mostly uses something called "Jyutping", or Cantonese style Pinyin, both look way different. Also, sure you can communicate with each other regardless of what Dialect you speak through Chinese writing, but from what I hear, it's not 100% accurate. Cantonese is around 2000 years old, and Mandarin is around 800 years old, the proof is from the Tang Dynasty. When you read a poem today from the Tang Dynasty in Mandarin, it doesn't rhyme, but if you read it in Cantonese it does rhyme, this is the proof, look it up if you don't believe me. But the thing is, there's some sayings in Cantonese that people don't say in Mandarin, but overall both will understand. Also, from what I hear, Mainland China uses Simplified Chinese, and Hong Kong uses Traditional Chinese, not 100% sure if this is true. But anyways, please start saying whether you know Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese Chinese, it's really annoying to hear people say "I know Chinese", but you don't know which dialect.

This is the same for me, I know quite a lot of Cantonese, but I don't understand some odd sayings and some odd words. I can't read or write either, my parents sent me to this school, but it didn't really help. But anyways, CHINESE RESPECT!
