Sold a Runescape account - getting threatened

I sold a man a Runescape account over 7 months ago. When he payed me I believe he used the service option on Paypal. I sent him the info, he sent me the cash, because I wasn't worried about getting scammed. Everything went well; he was happy, I was happy.

I just received an email from him stating "Could you please quit logging into your old account or I'll get paypal and file a claim". I don't even play Runescape anymore, just not interested. I'm guessing someone hacked him, and now he's blaming me.

My question is - am I safe? It's obviously been way over 60 days since the transaction and he payed using the service option. I really don't feel like paying him back due to it being his fault this happened.

I sent him an email back saying I don't even play anymore, and that I might be able to help. If I can't end up helping, can he file a claim or anything of the sort against me?

EDIT: Sorry in advance for the poor screenname, haha.

I'd say he's safe. Unless he can match up your IP with the one that's logging in, you're more than 95% safe/

Yeah he can't file a claim after 60 days you're fine. The proper thing to do would be to try and help him securely recover the account. You're fine though.

Your fine. He has to have proof that you actually recovered the account. So as long as you don't say anything that could be perceived as saying you took the account back or he gets matching ips your fine.

Nah, I didn't say anything that could be perceived as me stealing it, and I'm not even worried about it being my IP. He sent me this-

"I have the account back but someone keeps recovering it and they changed the bank password next time ithey log in i'll wrie down their IP then i can find out where and who"

So this shows me that he's completely capable of handling it himself. If he sends me anymore emails I'm just going to tell him to buy some AV software, and that he most likely has a keylogger or something of the sort.

If you are not the original owner of the account (are you or not?), you are still responsible. Although he cannot charge back via paypal anymore.

Sold a Runescape account - getting threatened

I am the original owner of the account, never even shared it. This was sold locally (somewhat). He used paypal, but I believe he lives within 100 miles. Getting to the point, he just sent me this email.

"Damn Im tired of recovering this password I think its time to pay you a visit"

To me this comes off as a threat. So I responded (this is like 4 emails combined, but still)

"Sir, is this a threat? It has been over 7 months since your purchase, way over 60 days since the point of able to return. I offered to help, but instead you took responsibilities into your own hands. Please don't blame me for what is happening. By any chance do you run full computer antivirus and spyware scans? It could easily be possible that you have a keylogger, thus causing this to happen.

And if you are attempting to blame me for this, I can assure you that I am NOT doing this. I suggest you read the very first emails I ever sent you -- my business has been very good with you. I don't even play that game anymore.

And it is not even possible for me to recover it after so much time. (I probably shouldn't have put this, but I don't even believe I can. I don't even remember any previous passwords/recoveries/ basically anything.)

So please, do not threaten me. And if I remember correctly, you told me this was a gift for your daughter. I don't mean to come off as rude, but are you sure she didn't reveal any of the information to her friends/family? "

    Did I handle this correctly?

EDIT: To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind giving him his damn $40 back. I mean it's only $40, it's not like it's $500. The only problem is I'm flat broke, and owe my dad $20.

It is possible to recover your account after a long time, your first IP is the most important thing.

This is pretty much your answer. 7 months is a long time and anything could have happened. If you didn't recover the account and he has no proof, you should be fine.
