Robitussin Dry Cough Forte (DXM) - Safe or Not?

I take DXM about once a week with my mates at school, for fun. DXM is the overdose of a cough medicine called Robitussin Dry Cough Forte, and over the counter purchase at your local chemist. I usually drink half - 3 quarters of the bottle and the effects make you feel drunk, high, fast and will make you hallucinate/trip.

What are your opinions on how safe 'DXM' is? Google it and leave some feedback on if I should quit while I'm ahead of myself or keep doing it but pace myself. It's good fun but if it is seriously dangerous, then I want to stop. I have done my research and came to the conclusion of not that dangerous and only 1 person has died from it out of millions of times being tried. I could of got my research wrong however which is why I want multiple opinions.

 

Sorry but this is kind of sad, I know this forums here to help well, You shouldn't need to take cough medicine to make your life any better, I know it's good fun I've done a shit load of drugs but came to the conclusion not even alcohols worth it. Don't take it. No point, Also if you took that here, Where im from, You'd be looked at like a bum Sounds very low class and skanky.

But yeah don't take it. Im sure there was something about this on some show, It can become highly addictive taking Pre-scribed and over the counter drugs. Don't take it.

 

I've done it a few times, usually small doses to reach 2nd plateu. It's safe to an extent. I did it one night, without measuring properly and had a very bad night. I assume I was flirting with the line of 4th plateu. I fell asleep before it peaked, and woke up with no sound/pitch black room. So hallucinations started to begin, I couldn't feel anything and I thought I was dying, it was like all the heat and energy in my body was fighting to escape through my skin. It felt as though everything in the world was frozen in time, and I was a lonely soul floating around aimlessly. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. I had to call my friend to come help me, because I was afraid to DEATH, that I was going to eat a glass. I have no idea why, but I was in tears because I was so afraid I was going to eat a glass and not be able to control it.

But I think its fairly safe at low doses. Just make sure its pure DXM and not Triple C's. Triple C's is what kills people.

 

I lost a friend to doing drugs man. He started out with weed then he moved on to pills and much much worse. I still miss him. RIP Max - 03/19/2007 . We were still young, and I'm guessing you are too. Please don't do this to your family. Too you it sounds like your not hurting yourself but you really are.

 

Why do something stupid like DXM when you can something safer and fun like weed or drinking.

 

drinking isnt safe at all, do u know how many people die to drinking?

thats really an over generalization, weed does not become a gateway drug as many people say it is

on topic- just dont do it man, if someone has died from it. plus its pretty dumb to get high on cough syrup

 

DXM is an extremely unsafe, and irresponsible thing to do. I might sound like a "nagging mother" to you, but what I said is the truth. If at all possible I would extreme suggest that you stop doing this as soon as possible. Doing things such as DMX can be highly addictive, and could possibly not even be possible at this point to just "stop" without professional help. People say to just quit doing things such as meth, smoking, and other addictive drugs cold turkey, but in reality it's not that easy.

Doing overdoses such as these can cause short term affects, as well as some long term affects. People under the influence of overdosing drugs such as these, are sometimes known to completely lose touch with reality. Some people have reported to not care about anything, even the thought of dieing. Along with this you could also experience bad trips, that can really mess with you.

Overall I would highly suggest you to try and stop doing these typed of overdoses, even if it means you have to consult professional help. It's not something you should really be ashamed off, as many people around the world have the same story as you. Although you shouldn't be ashamed/afraid to talk about what you are doing, that not mean that I'm trying to say what your doing is ok. Any drug is bad for you, I wouldn't recommend anyone to take drugs.

To prove how bad it is, I know a few people from my college who take cocaine, I don't hang around with them but they are in my class, I have asked them what they would and wouldn't take and one of there wouldn't was actually cough mixture (obviously they would take it if they had a cough).

 

From what I have heard and seen from kids who have overdone it, your liver gets fucked up (same as alcohol). Also I knew a guy who overdosed recreationally and one time he went to the hospital, in the 3 days he was there he "died" twice and his heart stopped four times. I can't corroborate the information but he is so slow. If you care about yourself then don't do it. Drug free is the way to be

63 will kill you

1 full bottle will take you on a trip
2 bottles could kill you.

No way bro you really have to stop man sipping on over the counter stuff always leads to health problems with your liver etc.. It's also so easy to overdose on that. There is also a high posibility that will only lead to a harder and mor addictive drug ...

 

Welllll yeah it's worse for you than most recreational drugs but If you're careful you shouldn't have a problem.. If you drink a reasonable amount and you start to think "I'm not even high, maybe i should drink more" that's a sign to stop because you can easily lose track of what you put down and it takes more and more every time.

I wouldn't know very well though, I only did it twice since i can't stand the taste of medicine.
