The real value of 1 billion.

People always think 1 billion doesn't sound THAT much, I mean it's only 1000 millions right?

Put this into perspective of time in seconds.

1 million seconds = 11 days
1 billion seconds = 32 YEARS


Doesn't it make you think WTF? I thought it was crazy the diffrence.

Maybe it's just me but whatcha think?

 

Uhh..yeah I suppose it's crazy. I expected this thread to be about money, like billionaires and millionaires..but you mean like everything on the scale of one billion, don't you?

 

Yeah, I just find it crazy how much a billion actually is, Like it doesn't sound THAT much but it is. This came about when i was watching the news and they put it into this perspective, The UK has to make like £83Billion of cuts this year or something when you think on it that's a crazy ammount.

Meh maybe just me like i said. I've just never really thought it to be THAT much more than a million. I mean i probably just sound stupid here but When a billion is put into perspective I just think it actually really shows what it actually is.

I wish i was bill gates....he has what...54 billion$....he could probably buy a country hehe(joking)..I dont think its legal....But think of all the cars he could have...i think he could have all the fastest cars in the world.

 

I think the fact that there is only a 1 before billion is probably why you underestimate it's value. To me, regardless of that, I see it as an enormous amount.

Yes, but in India real estate is much much cheaper and there is no way you could get something like that in US or something for that price.

I was hanging out with the local hippies today and we were discussing the value of different things 1billion is obviously worth quite a bit more. You couldn't even buy an island for 1million would be atleast like 6 or 7 times that plus after taxes your looking at quite a smaller ammount suddenly 1 million doesn't seem like that much.

do you hang out with oil sheik's and bill gates. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read... if you went elementary school you would know the huge difference between a million and a billion.... For example my mums house is worth
£1.2m and my dads penthouse is worth upwards 1.4m+ but we still can't afford to run Ferrari, Lamborghini's.

I think most people have misunderstood the OP, he is simply stating that he did not realise how large the gap between one million and one billion was, hes not talking if one billion of anything is a large amount or not.

 

Now that you mention something like this, it's made me think even more about the higher numbers...like "trillion" and "quadrillion".

Just talking about "billion" is still crazy because it's kind of scary to imagine the world's population; isn't that closing in on 7~ish?
