"God Hates Fags"

I am not here to persecute homosexuals seeing as to i don't have any deep issues or concerns with them. I am not homophobic though I am not an advocate of gay marriage I have Gay friends. That's beyond it.

There has been recurring events with a little Baptist Church crusading around the country visiting Marines funerals and protesting outside of them and even inside of them.

These "Christians" claim that homosexuality has caused the lord to become apoplectic and that this "War on Terror" is a direct result of homosexuals.

So their means of going about showing there distaste for the entire ordeal is by picketing outside of funerals of those trying to mourn there losses. Needless to say someone finally stepped up and is suing. Though it was only a matter of time and this hasn't been really a subject of urgent attention, i find it intriguing nonetheless.

I have a different take on the matter I thought maybe i could share with you and i could hear some of your views on the matter.

I think that there are different connotations being made by protesting outside these funerals. There tyrants that are against the war. You're thinking "Well then why would they make so many harsh heinous protests for a different cause?" It's a defense mechanism. I think that by protesting against homosexuals it's an easy scapegoat and an easy way to avoid persecution from the government or the patriotic people of America.

If they were really against homosexuals, then why are they protesting outside of funerals? There isn't any correlation. It would be far more trivial and appropriate in there case to go picket outside of Gay clubs. If their really as against it as they say they are then they are disgusting.

It's the same as walking out in front of a rape victims house and holding up signs and screaming "You were raped because god hates you."

Curious as to what you all think.

 

If I'm not mistaken, the signs that they hold are more than just against homosexuals. Some say things like "Thank God for Dead Americans" or something along those lines. In my opinion, they are just extremist Christians that are convinced God hates people and takes out vengeance on them. But it is pretty terrible to be basically attacking people as they mourn their loved ones. Funerals are private events and they deserve their privacy.

 

I hate to be blunt about it, but we're dealing with religion here. There are rationalists and extremists.

The extremists are the ones that society hates, because their interpretations of their religious works lead them to doing things that are illogical and disrespectful.... i.e., A 'God Hates Fags' protest at the funeral of a gay person.

And if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the Bible tell Christians to love Gays like any other person? From what I understand, a Christian is to treat gays with respect and love but not 'accept' their sexual orientation, because it's a sin.

 

No, the Bible, from what I understand says, that gays must be killed.

 

I'm under the impression that the Bible tells Christians to love everyone, even those with whom your beliefs differ. I do not think that at any point the Bible would state that gays must be killed because one of the Ten Commandments is Thou Shall Not Kill.

As a whole, I'm under the impression that religions are perfect as concepts but it is us as humans (or as a society) that corrupt them, or bend their guidelines to suit our needs.

 

Extremists within our own country are common. They sung outside these ceremonies songs like our National Anthem. There is nothing patriotic about protesting the funeral of Marine.

Obviously there is a religious aspect to it that was already accepted. It's not the religion that has it wrong, it's there irrational thinking, people over analyze things to the point where they've lost the meaning in which it was derived. It's just as big of a cry for attention as it was for the Pastor to make it public knowledge that he was burning hundreds of copies of the Quran.

Though that's a separate debate on the matter. I think you're all dodging the point. You're all focusing on religion when it goes much deeper then that.

It's the cause that they're supposedly fighting for. One that they feel to be a just one. I didn't mean to turn this into a religious debate, it was supposed to focus more on there conscious actions and the belief that they don't feel as though they should be litigated for said part.

They are hiding behind there freedom of speech. Freedom of speech doesn't mean harass who you want when you want because of your views on ones sexual orientation.

 

How can that which does not exist commit to the act of hatred?

 

Regardless of the contradictions made I find that the reason i believe in some divine supreme being is that it gives hope. I find that when i don't have anyone that there is someone there for me. It's something to cling to.

The bible holds no proof to itself which is why people continuously deny it. It all lies in faith. Though it's a different subject of matter it's my understanding that you're Gay. Which is why I'm curious of your take on it.

What do you make of all this? Do you think there are deeper intentions to there statement, or do you think that this is a form of persecution.

 

It's not all about the religion, but the religion does directly influence these people's thinking. These are people that have been raised under extremist ideologies. Hence, their thinking process has been altered in such a way as to comply with said ideologies. In complying with them, they are contradicting themselves (as Finn showed with his earlier post on the Bible's contradictions), but they justify it through their faith to keep the support of the believers; and hide behind the amendments (as you said) to keep the support of everyone else.

Yes, they abuse their freedoms, but not much can be done about it unless congress adds a clause to the constitution addressing sexual persecution. We'll always have people like this in society.

 

I do not care enough about religious studies to know about any particular one in depth. Christianity is full of contradictions, and that makes all these religious debates very annoying.

I read in an article that the supreme court could rule that funerals are private events or something along those lines which would make picketing them illegal under current laws.

 

Imo, fred phelps and his family are just trolls because often their statements make no sense and their ideas don't work together they are just making it up as they go fueled by everyone else's rage. Their website accepts emails, which are obviously going to be 99% hatemail their kids probably read those for fun. So many people are crushed by this like you should see the comments on some of the YT vids. People are so stupid they rage so hard when something doesn't even effect them.

I mean c'mon let's be serious... gay ppl aren't always that bad but fucking niggers & jews? ~.^

 

The Westboro Baptist church is completely ridiculous. I've watched numerous documentaries from neutral perspectives and well... they just make no sense. Every time they are asked to justify their statements and opinions, they fail to do so.
