Otherwise called a "News" forum, or something along those lines. Current events to me sounds a bit more specific and down to the point, and it won't get mixed up.

In this forum (which would be in the Off-Topic section), users can post about large news topics. Others can reply with their thoughts and it would be an intellectual forum where you can see what is going on in the world.

This is NOT like the something for all forum or the general discussion forum, seeing as how it is more narrowed down.

I personally believe this section would receive fair enough activity to be implemented.

I don't think it's a bad idea but I don't think it would be very active. Support.

I think offtopic has enough sub forums as it is.

Celebrity scandals, war events, large sums of deaths (e.g. terrorist attacks, bombings, wrecks), BP oil spill (not anymore though, but that's just an example), large weather disruptions (hurricanes + earthquakes)

The more places you have to post, the happier the members are because there is so much variety.

Current events are all usually discussed in the General Discussion/off topic section. No support.

Not really needed. This is like the suggestion about splitting the RAS into two sections the other day. It's pointless and not needed.

I'm not really sure if it is necessary because these can just be posted in the general discussion section. On the other hand some of the current news could be viewed as spam (celebrity scandals). I quite enjoy current events (not the celebrity aspect, but the real news like politics etc.) so support

IMO there isnt that many threads on these issues. And most die off in General within hours.

I'll keep thinking about it though

    I prefer organization.

For celebrity scandals I was talking more along the lines of very large ones, such as the OJ Simpson trial.
    Thanks for the support.

They die due to the fact that other, general discussion topics push them off the board quickly. It is a very active forum and if there is another forum made (current events) the general discussion will be cut back a little bit (helping with multi-topic threads) and also an entire new forum with interesting threads that are interfered or mixed with others.

It's not unorganized as it is. We can't have a forum section for every single topic in the world. If you want to talk about current events then go into the General discussion forum and talk about them. That is what it's used for half of the time anyways.

You're right, there can't be one for every topic... but it is a very large topic.

I'm not going to argue the topic anymore, but what's wrong with using the general discussion section? I just feel that it would be a useless section.

General discussion is used for personal things and discussion amongst peoples everyday lives. There are a lot of questions about employment, age, appearance, gender... really anything personal.

I just believe it would be nice if news stories could be separated into their own forum. Every day I get online I spend a few minutes looking at the AOL news; sometimes they have some crazy shit on there! I would like to look at more of these stories in a more organized fashion. Instead of searching for them through a forum where anything can be posted, it would be nice for them to be in their own forum.
The rate that news stories are posted right now wouldn't stay the same... If there was a forum in particular for 'current events', then a lot more posts would be made regarding the news. It would not be a nonactive forum; many posts would be made and many interested people would view the threads.
