Spending real money on internet games?

Is spending money on internet games pointless/stupid?

It's quite a debatable topic. Over the duration I've played Runescape, I've had plenty of people irl and online say to me how pointless and idiotic spending real cash on membership is. I'm wondering what you guys think. (This is a virtual trading forum, but try not to be too biased.)

    I think of it this way;
Games like Runescape, WoW etc are entertainment, just like PS3s, Xboxs and even Sky/Cable.

Someone spends 60$ on a PS3 game. It's thought of as "normal" and a good way to spend money?
Someone spends 6$ on Runescape membership. It's thought of as "stupid" and a pointless way to spend money.

Ok so both entertain, PS3 game costs 10x more.
Runescape membership lasts for lets say, 30 days.
This means for a PS3 game to entertain as much as it's worth compared to a runescape membership, it should take 300 days to complete. Which it doesn't.
Most game-freaks can complete most games in 3 days.
So, a runescape membership is 99x better than a PS3 game cost/value wise.
(i'm a bit crap at maths, so feel free to correc that. It probably needs correcting :p)

That's my argument, lets hear yours. :)

Do what you want with your money as long as it doesn't affect me. Spend it on WoW, on Runescape, on Gaia, whatever. It's your hard earned money and you should be able to do with it as you please.

Aslong as you don't spend it on Club Pengu- um, yeah agreed.

I find that most people, who have in the past criticized me for spending cash on runescape membership end up joining at some point and realising why I've been doing it. Nothing better to hear than "You were right."

Like Gohan said, it's your cash spend it on what interests you. If you like Games like Runescape then by all means buy membership. If your more into sports or other things then put your money into that.

Spending real money on internet games?

I personally find this an interesting topic because while I do spend my cash on an internet game, runescape, I find ways to avoid spending my irl cash on it. In other words, I started out with a verified paypal with a balance of $0.00. I ventured out and began trying to make money online, whether it be botting and selling accounts, or doing services for people. Now, I have a significantly large amount of wealth to use on all my internet gaming needs, because that wealth originated purely and solely from the internet alone. So while I think you should not use IRL cash on internet games/aka pixels, you should be able to spend your internet money for internet needs.

Off topic: Hooray! My awesome 700th post! :D

Exactly what I'm trying to do atm, started at 0.00 and I'm having a very hard time. Atm I'm at about 2 USD xD It's really hard tbh. I can't do any survey-website thingies because they're not available in Ireland, and nobody buts the accounts I try to sell.

    [grats on 700 posts btw]

It's your money, if you would rather spend your money on a account for a game instead of doing hours of mindless work i don't see how that could be considered wrong. To each his own really

Wow, I never though of it like that. I normally just cringe when people tell me how much they pay for WoW membership. But when the tell me they spent like 60$ on a xbox game I'm like so-what? But you also, when thinking about this sort of deal, need to look at the idea that the console alone will cost 200$-300$ which is like 5 years of runescape membership. Thats a long time when it comes to runescape.
