How the System Works

Alright, I'm relatively new to Sythe. I'm interested in buying a partyhat, and i've been to the other forum subcategory (Item Exchange--> Selling) and looked at some of the offers. It seems to me there is a high rate of people who sell items and then get scammed by the buyer, i.e. the seller sells item, buyer doesn't pay. This said, I have yet to see anyone complain about someone not selling the item, and taking their IRL cash. Has this ever happened to anyone? And if it did what would one do about this?

Oh yes it happens, but for a scammer, if they are taking irl money, it seems as a more serious deal. If they do, you can dispute the money if it was sent via paypal. And of course submit a scammer report. I have also heard people talk about submitting a report here:

Normally you can use a middle man which then holds the money while you trade the in-game item. After it is traded the seller will receive the money. (Note some middle men do it differently.)

 

Thanks guys! Also one more question: I thought the OMM received the item from the seller, and once the IRL cash is delivered to the seller, the OMM sells to the buyer? Am I wrong? Thanks <3

 

Usually the OMM sells to the buyer after the payment is recieved.

 

It depends of the OMMs, sometimes they do not have enough gold to cover the trades. Most of the times, they will not handle the IRL cash due to chargebacks.

I would do it something similar to this, or I would login to the account holding the rare and wait until the other person has sent payment, and the buyer confirms he got the payment then I would trade the phat ingame.
