What is wrong with being a Catholic?

There is no problem in believing in any religion. If that is how you want to spend your life, so be it. I don't have a problem.

However, if someone asks why I'm an atheist then starts a debate about it, I will defend my beliefs as will they.

Most of it isn't hate, it's just us stating why we don't believe in it and stating our side of the argument.

 

I don't fully understand Catholocism, but is it stating that you're being punished for what Adam did in the Garden of Eden? Or Just for your sins in general?

 

No we just don't believe in an old book about a old guy with a beard in the sky that created everything.

We or anyone shouldn't like people that make ridiculous claims and others support it without a single piece of scientific evidence.

 

So you do believe that there was nothing except for one atom? Then, it expanded rapidly, magically creating planets and stars and galaxies? And life magically formed on Earth? How's that for a ridiculous claim

 

The big bang theory is not about an atom magically creating planets and stars. Perhaps you should pick up a book (a science book, that is) and read about it?

 

But you can believe a magical deity that magically created the world in 7 days?

I didn't say you couldn't believe in the Bing Bang Theory; I meant that your beliefs are just as crazy as ours.

 

I find it amazing how you can even compare a scientific theory to a fiction book.

I don't believe in an invisible deity myself. I don't have "faith" in the religion.

A modern Catholic should not be brushing off the old testament and saying it doesn't count. That's part of your book, written by your people. You can't ignore what your religion was founded upon and exclude the negativity in the old testament. Reading it was the main reason I left Christianity. It's not right to issue the commandments and violate them.

I just don't like any religion to be frank. It feels so backwards to be worshiping an invisible 'God' who does not participate in our lives as far as we know.

 

Do Catholics really disregard everything stated in the Old Testament?

 

Since when is having proof of something crazy? I think the people that have the facts right in front of their faces but just choose to ignore it are crazy.

 

The old testament is the Jewish bible, Catholics didn't write it.

 

I have to say one thing about Christan faith and science, I myself claim Christian beliefs (Non-denominational) and I also am and avid believer in science and scientific proof. The Bible can be interpreted many ways, and the creation theories are just that Theories the Bible has a theory, science has theory, everyone has a theory on how this all happened. You can't argue something that doesn't have any solid proof, like you can't prove or disprove the existence of God because there is no proof either way.

 

The problems with catholics is they added traditions and other things not in the bible to the religion.

This isn't about the existence of a deity there are plenty other threads discussing that

 

I introduce you to the term "Selective Catholosism", whereby the individual picks and chooses the parts of Catholosism they wish to adhere to, do not attend mass, ignore events in Catholosism's history and so on.

 

Do they have a term like that for Christianity?
