The Complete NAT Guide for the Xbox 360 - Written by FiReWaLL

I, FireZ, was originally known as FFA xfirewall on Bungie.net. I had the most helpful NAT xbox guide of all time which helped well over 250+ people while I was their back in the Fall of 2007.

By searching on google "NAT guide xbox" This guide comes up on the first page.

    http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=15647614&postRepeater1-p=1

NOTE - Can't take pictures as I don't have an xbox anymore. I have a degree in Networking though so I should be able to help anyone who needs it

Welcome to the NAT and Xbox Live Connection Test Hub.

First off we'll go through the Xbox Connection Test and then we'll explore routers and NAT and what you can do to fix problems that may occur.

Post 1: - Your reading it
Post 2: - Xbox Live Connection Test
Post 3 - NAT and Routers

    The Xbox Live Connection Test

Acceesible on your 360 under the Network Settings tab on the System Blade on the Xbox 360 Dashboard.

    1. Network Adapter

This detects that you are physically connected.

Wired Connection - Verifies that an ethernet cord is connected to your xbox 360.

Wireless - Verifies that your console can communicate with your wireless bridge.

    2. IP Address

: Obviously you need an IP Adress to play on live.

Confirms that your xbox has its own unique IP. Meaning its different than any other device on the network.

    Usually assigned by DHCP

    3. DNS Servers

: DNS Servers are controlled by your ISP.

With any problems I would verify that your ISP isn't having any problems and then reset your router etc.

    4. MTU Setting

: MTU - Maximum Transmission Unit

It must be set at 1364 or higher to connect to Xbox Live

You'll half to login to your router and change this if you have problems ( will be explained under NAT section.

    5. ICMP Setting

: ICMP - Internal Control Message Protocol

ICMP Packets are a must to connect to live.

    7. Contacting Xbox-Live

: This verifies that your console can contact Xbox Live. Very Important.

    8. NAT

: thats a whole section by itself

    NAT Guide

    Table of Contents

    1............................................................ What you Need

    2............................................................ Terminology

    3............................................................ Router IP Address

    4............................................................ uPnP

    5............................................................ DMZ

    6............................................................ Port Forwarding

    7............................................................ Multiple Xbox's

    8............................................................ Dorms at Universities

    9............................................................ Important Links

    1. What you Need

Ok before we go any farther you need to have all of the following things handy, or get them.

    1. Your Routers Username and Password (Most are admin and admin)
    2. Your xbox's IP. (Get it from dashboard under network settings.)
    3. Your Routers address(usually 192.168.1.1) Look below for how to get it just to double check it

    2. Terminology

    Terminology

    NAT - Network Adress Translation
DMZ - De-Militarized Zone - The zone not affected by the router
    uPnP - Universal Plug-In-Play

    3. Router IP Address

HOW TO GET YOUR ROUTERS IP ADDRESS ------- VERY IMPORTANT

    Start------> Run
    Type in cmd
    Click Ok

in the command prompt type ipconfig
The Default Gateway is your Router's IP Address

    4. uPnP

For Routers that have UPnP capabilities, this the only option you will need. With that being said do the following:

    1. Set your Xbox 360's IP To Automatic
    2. Disable DMZ
    3. Remove Port Forwarding Entries.
    4. ENABLE UPnP

    5. DMZ

Step-by-Step Instructions If you don't have uPnP.

    1. Login in to your router site.

    2. Find your DMZ settings

    3. There should be a local and a public setting.

    4. Type your xbox's IP into the local DMZ host IP box.

    5. Hit Apply or Accept or w/e.

    6. Restart your xbox up and go to the dashboard and test your xbox live connection.

    7. You should have OPEN NAT now.

    6. Port Forwarding

    You need to open up

    3074 UDP
    3074 TCP
    88 UDP

    http://www.PortForward.com

    7. Multiple Xbox's Info

    Not Done Yet

Additionally set 1 xbox up for port forwarding and 1 xbox up for DMZ.

    8. Dorms and Universities

Many colleges have their internet setup so only "computer connections" can go thru and use their internet.

The only way to get past this with an xbox is "bridge"()no not cheat lol) your connection thru your computer so it looks like a computer connection and not an xbox.
I will not go into any detail of how to do this so don't ask:

Thank you for using my guide as countless others have already.
