    Religion, is it Brainwashing?

Many families choose to raise their children into a specific religion. Because infants do not see any views besides those of their parents, how could they decide for themselves if God exists or not? Isn't it brainwashing to make them believe in God from birth?

    What are your opinions?

I wouldn't get involved religion scare's me, and all priests are child molesters. I don't think I'm an atheist. Although everyone in my family never goes to church. Also just because we don't believe in religion doesn't mean we have no faith.

People decide what religion (or lack thereof) they believe in in their teens, usually.

You're scared of religion because a few priests allegedly molested someone? Would you not go to school for the same reason because a teacher molested someone?

Wouldn't you agree though that if your parents raised you to believe God exists, then you would be more likely in your teenage years to believe it?

Yes. Most people tend to doubt their religions though. I did a little, until I got proof from God.

If a teacher molested a student, I'd seriously switch schools, and I'd know a lot of people that would switch with me.

None. He had a delusional voice in his head.

That's going to be his reply.

Or, he got lucky, and prayed for something, then got it.

There's and easier explanation for this, which is called Schizophrenia. God doesn't communicate, you communicate with yourself. I'm not dissing religion, I just think its completely silly to ask yourself for a sign and look for something random around you and believe that it's god himself communicating with you. And if you're hearing voice's I'd consider going to see a specialist.

    Religion, is it Brainwashing?

I was raised to be catholic from birth, had baptism and partook in all the childhood confessions and was involved with the church. I was like that until a few years ago, until i grew a brain and realized i didn't have to follow everything my family believed in.

As of now, I'm head more towards the theory of evolution and there there is no divine being.

So in my case religion fro ma young age had no effect on my beliefs, but then i guess it depends on how you think about other things in life as well.

    Religion, is it Brainwashing?

No absolutely not. It all depends on the kid i was raised as a Christian and i questioned that around the age of 12-13. At 14 i then looked through stuff and read and wanted to know more then just what my parents or school taught me.

Sir if you don't believe in a deity you are a atheist.

theism believes in one deity and A-being without theism no god. You have to believe in a deity to not be an atheist. From all your other posts you take the stance of an Agnostic Atheist.

Obviously if you grow up in a religious environment, you'd be influenced. On the whole, if you grew up with a religion, you'd most likely commit to it.
As a few others have asked, please share.

What Deity do you believe in?

You must list a Deity to not be an atheist you really need to research before you make yourself look foolish.

    Religion, is it Brainwashing?

No it is not. Everybody has their own choice. I was born a Christian, raised a Christian for the first fifteen years of my life, then one day in church(ironic right?) I started thinking about how this doesn't make sense.

So no, everybody can make their own choice. They just need to open their eyes and look around them.

No it's not, most religions give you a choice whenever you're of age. Alot of people now a days are raised Christian, then as they get older turn away from Christianity.

In all honesty, these religious debates need to stop. These same debates take place all across the internet, and it's the same stuff back and forth.
