Try using stocks rather than renders or put the renders on a background.

Protip: Stop looking at tutorials. Use the software to make something all your own. Invent a style, even if it's been done before. Some of my signatures in the past have taken over 5 hours. Not the one you see here, obviously, but you will hit that wall of skill until you start working with the skills to make something all-new.

I understand that you are looking to find new skills by looking at tutorials, but it's easier to find like 6-10 tutorials of one style, then master it without them. You will fail a lot, but once you make a working product, you'll then work at it more until it's just art, not a signature.

As a little random side note - I've never followed a tutorial except once, and that was to figure out the features behind some tools.
You don't need them at all to improve, and your best bet to take your skills further is experimentation.

    disregard this.

    read tutorials, they are good.

dont force yourself into a style.

make a planetrenders account and read some of the free tutorials, or get someone to tutor you.

    protip? wat

dont ever follow a tut word for word, though.

there are a million different ways to follow a tutorial or 2 or 3 at once to make your own interpretation.

However, once you've learned all these new techniques you should start making tags without tutorials until you hit another brick wall etc

you'll gradually start depending less on tutorials and so on and so forth

Use tuts to figure out new techniques and then combine them into your own unique style.

:( I am saddened by this insult. I have moderated here since 2006, and I was a Graphics Mod primarily from 2007 through late 2009. I was not giving tips on how to make a "Good looking" project today, but rather a great looking project, true to life, in decent time. The graphics that you people do are all C4D on top of a light spot, with a circle, or a squiggly line to show off a pre-made render or stock picture of a person. The graphics I have done for the last 5 years, as I have been working with Photoshop for the last 9, are all made of nothing, built from scratch. If you were looking for someone to look toward for good advice on learning the program, I think it's more important to look at someone who understands the program completely.

Didn't mean to offend you and I know who you are.

I just have a different point of view on this subject.

And just because I choose not to make my graphics from scratch in photoshop, doesn't mean I can't. I choose to use a render because I like to have a person as a focal most of the tie and since I cannot vector very well I just pay to my strengths and use what is given to me. I really don't know why you decided to turn this into a "I'm better than you so listen to me" thing and frankly I am saddened by your insult as well.

Look at his tags now: they also feature and render and he wants to make better tags like this so why take advice from someone who doesn't do this style. Yes I just contradicted myself but I also proved a point. I know you can also make tags like this, however you choose not to.

Stop making assumptions bout people based on one tag. I've seen your work
and I wouldn't be saying this if I hadn't because that would be ignorant.

And to be fair, I doubt you have never read a tutorial and used it.

I agree with both of you on the subject. Can you really COMPLETELY master graphics until you understand both of the stock/render side and the vector/scratch side?

I HIGHLY respect anyone who attempts to make something in the graphics field no matter if it's bad work or good work. Why put some one down because there not as advanced in a subject than you are? I know for a fact vision is a superb graphics artist and i'm sure surj is to. No one has ever opened up photoshop and mastered it within one try.[/quote]
