Staff Feedback. Hypocritical?

I came across this thread earlier today, and it seems to me he was banned on the basis of writing about how to steal. It is very true that stealing is completely against the rules, or better, the law. But, is this whole site not against the rules that some authority has set forth? I am 100% positive that it is against regulations of Runescape or World of Warcraft to sell accounts/ buy services. It just all sounds hypocritical to me.

P.S. I am in NO way questioning any MODS decision, or this site in general. This topic just puzzles me. There is absolutely no affiliation between me and said banned account.

Can I write a guide on how to shoot a gun and get banned for that? After all, you could misuse my information and kill someone, but that's totally not jumping to conclusions at all...

 

Breaking the law is massively more severe than breaking RuneScape terms. Sythe.org doesn't support hacking/scamming/stealing (which is morally and legally wrong), only trading and botting (which Jagex don't like, and the more mature members here respect that and don't complain if they get banned).

I could write a guide on how to smoke weed for the best high, and I highly (punny puns) doubt I would be banned for that. I am breaking real-world laws though.

 

We don't support illegal activity, and thats exactly what that thread was about.

 

Breaking the TOS doesn't hurt anybody, though I completely agree with Jagex's stance on botting/RWTing. Breaking real-life laws, or at least the justified ones (stealing, scamming, etc) does hurt people, and so we don't do that (unfortunately some do, of course).

 

No. I meant breaking ToS is not as bad as breaking laws. Stealing shows what type of character you have: dishonesty. If you can steal IRL, who's to say you won't steal here on Sythe?

ToS is not a law. It's a terms of service that the game developers have you agree to. You break them, you get banned. You break laws, you go to jail.

 

In all reality, he did not break any laws (by writing the guide that is).

 

Aren't there a bunch of enacted laws that depict just about everything 'black market' on here as illegal? Besides, it was just a guide. He didn't actually do it hopefully.

Server development is against the law. But yet, it is promoted here peacefully. Copyright laws if someone does not get it.

 

Are you suggesting that it's legal for me to walk to a bank and hand out leaflets about how to rob banks to everybody inside? No, of course it isn't.

It is ethically wrong, but I would have to look into whether or not it is against the law. Freedom of speech, press.

True, that isn't illegal.

However, people write guides on subjects they know about or have done before. He wrote a guide on how to steal. Therefore, it's safe to assume he steals. He even bragged about it in his thread. Go look for it if you didn't see it. We don't want that type of people here.
