I want to know why everyone thinks gays will be attracted to them? They seem to be afraid of homosexuals in the military because they think the gays will attack them and rape them. But yet, women don't seem to be that attracted to these same people. Must be latent homosexual tendencies these people have.

DADT is a good starting point, and it has run it's course. It's shown that gays can serve in the military right next to the straights. It's now time to do away with it, and let them serve openly.

I'd have to disagree with you there, but I'd prefer not to argue it.

While I am against homosexuality, I am also against persecution of homosexuals.

Out of curiosity, how would one change their sexual orientation? Since you think it's possible, I'd just like to know.

I am a gay male and did not consciously decide to be the way I am, nor did I have an abnormal childhood in any way. So I'd have to say that SuF is very right, and it shocks me that a country that claims to support freedom etc etc can enforce this rule (which I was previously unaware of, not being from the USA or interested in the military).

Do you honestly think that you are born straight or gay or in-between with no chance for any form of change?

The choices we make shape our sexuality, among other things.

Perhaps it is decided by various factors before/during puberty, but I couldn't just wake up one day and decide to like girls, just like (assuming you're straight) you couldn't like men. It is set it stone and you can't just flick a switch so you can be accepted into the military.

No, but with change over time you might. Sexual preference is not concrete.

You already are allowed into the military. Just don't tell people your sexuality, and don't ask for others.

I beg to differ, but that's just my experience. Perhaps in another 20 years I'll have something different to report.
    Why?

For some reason Americans don't like when gays shove their sexuality in their faces...maybe it started with the whole Prop 8 thing and all the gay rights activists. Honestly, I've heard enough about who's gay and who's straight. I dont care as long as you can do your job.

Those who oppose homosexuality for the same reason as always - they're scared of them. When millions of Jews were massacred, it was because people were scared they would steal their jobs. When the Soviets decided to hate the Americans and vice versa, it was because they were scared of nuclear attack.

If the media stops portraying gays as bizarre, flamboyant and obscene people, perhaps the public will open their eyes to reality. A film I saw recently, 'Bruno', is a perfect example. I got twenty minutes in and turned it off. I am gay, but I don't enjoy watching some arsetit wanker shoving his dick in my face unless it's pornography, and this is supposed to be a comedy film. It was just awful, and a perfect example of where people get these ideas from.

Most people dislike us because they either think we're going to be complete sexual lunatics and/or because they actually have inner homosexual desires.

As for those who aren't afraid and just hate us anyway, such people are closed-minded baboons and belong in a zoo. Either that or they follow a religion, but there's generally not much of a difference.

    Calm down, I'm kidding.

This is the state of mind that people should have. I don't want people to notice me especially because I'm gay, and those who do probably aren't really gay but are acting in such a way for attention. It should just be like when the average person sees somebody black. You don't spare their skin colour a thought; you don't really care.

From what I believe, and I hate to bring religion into this, people can switch sexual preferences. You could go to a conversion camp thing (I'm not knowledgeable with this.) I could be gay if I wanted, by simply giving in and thinking homosexual thoughts.

If you could do that then you must be bisexual. The average (straight) man could force himself to think about men, but it wouldn't be a true desire and inside he'd still be straight, unless I misunderstood you?

You don't force yourself to have homosexual thoughts, you just give in. And no, I'm not bisexual; I'm straight.

I don't understand. Do all straight men have homosexual thoughts that they suppress?

Then doesn't that make them bisexual by definition?

Agreed. DADT is against the constitution and should be abolished.

I know you are certain that's the case, however you can ask most homosexuals and they can tell you for certain, their sexuality was not choosen.

How about you try to be a homosexual yourself, if you are really straight, the idea of being with another man wouldn't 'turn you on'. Just as with a homosexual male, the idea of being with a woman doesn't. It's ignorance to think it can be altered.

By the way, those two are just examples from Sythe..I've had a few friends who wish they could be 'straight' (to not receive all this prejudice and what not), but they simply couldn't do it. It didn't feel right to them.
