Don't allow multiple accounts.

I can't think of any legitimate reason for anyone to use more than one ACTIVE account. The only uses for multiple active accounts are deceptive and discovery of multiple active accounts belonging to a single user should remain a permanent ban.

More members, someone wanted to start with a better name, Brother uses same IP, troll acc, etc.

 

To cover a few things here, and go into more detail:

1. 1 account per household. If you have family that use Sythe, find a way to distinct between who is posting. If your family member scams on the account, it should be up to you to fix whatever damages wrought (If you want to ever have any hopes of recovering your account).

2. Being disliked/wanting a name change. If you're disliked, fix the issue. Name changes are not approved FOR A REASON, and multiple accounts should not be supported for this reason.

3. Self-Vouching/Evading/Trolling/etc are all against the rules. Allowing multiple accounts allows users to be infracted double/triple/etc the amount they would normally be without getting banned, and could always go back to another account/let one sit while the infractions expire.

4. It's just too damned confusing and pointless.

If someone wants to start with a better name, have them inform the community, at least in their signature or something, of their old account. Troll accounts are hardly something that should be allowed.

 

I agree,, I don't believe individuals should be allowed to have more than 1 active account, I mean if you think about it. What would be the cause of needing more than one active account in the first place.

Now.. WHY? The account was 'hacked' a long time ago, yet remains banned, but now with this new account he uses, he uses 'his old account' to raise his trustworthiness. Which I don't find should be done.

I personally in my perspective believe individuals like this should be investigated because on most occasions their BS. The MSN registered to 'his old account' differs from the MSN he now uses on his new account. Which in return if you look at the MSN profile, the MSN is old. Which is odd, yes? As if he had just randomally had an old MSN he NEVER used until his active one registered to his 'so called hacked account' got banned.

My personal perspective is that ANY user using more than 1 account that are active should have one of them banned, and stay with one, any user that has 2 accounts, and one bieng banned based on THEM saying it was hacked SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED due to the simple fact that its obvious bs, if it's finished and safe, why are they not reinstated to their old account?

Nor do I believe in the whole " I don't like my name " bullcrap.. Seriously.. What does the name have to do with ANYTHING? This is a black-market trade community. Not a name "fashion" contest...

I'd also like to add people with multiple accounts as Deacon_Frost said, do just that.. I could careless if they say they won't, or even if they CURRENTLY has not. When shit hit's the fan, people do what they need to do regardless of thought or maturity and use what they have to their advantage.

So, what would be done with people who already have multiple accounts, and what should we do with people who do things like misspell their name?

If they already have multiple accounts then obviously banning them now would be ridiculous because it wasn't against the rules when they made them. Instead we could require them to choose one active account and then ban all others.

If you misspell your name, ditch your old account and create a new one with the correct name. You still only have one ACTIVE account.

 

Then you should change your title to Don't allow multiple "active" accounts.

 

I disagree. I can see someone getting an approved name change for an accidental misspelling if multiple accounts are to be unapproved, and the administrator would have to ban the account anyway... Changing the name would be that much easier.

However, it would only be supported for users with... say... < 10 posts.

 

That would literally kill ban evasion bannings though. Especially for us sectionals who can't view the damn ban list.

Misbannings would be waaay too often.

 

Except that was clearly stated throughout my post, and the multiple accounts rule has referred to "multiple active accounts" for months.

 

Still, refer to everyone elses post on how this wouldn't be implemented.

 

Give the banned accounts a title saying "multiple account" or something then, or don't even ban them but just require that they remain inactive.

My real issue isn't with people who make a second account for a different name, it's with people who have a decently known account, and make another account to avoid being associated with their "former self".

This; people deserve and should live with whatever reputation they have on the forums.

 

I have a brother who uses Sythe, but he's not that active, however he does use it at least once a week. If he were to do something stupid and get IP banned, that means I get fucked over? This is the one thing that makes it hard >_< I don't think he's that stupid to scam someone, or do something against the rules, but what if. I support it, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to have one per person at a home. I am able to give proof of him being my brother, and having his own account if it is ever needed :\

 

I agree with Clash. If there was a similar rank to Trade with Caution saying "Multiple Account" that would fix the problem.

Then don't allow sectionals to handle ban evasions. I covered this in the IRC more extensively, but it's a bad idea to give sectionals the ability to handle them.

Maybe a few sectionals could be given the power to do so, those who have shown they're capable of handling ban evasions on a mass scale, such as yourself.

You live with him, if he does something stupid, then you can handle the situation. If you cannot handle the situation, you could plead for an account, or something like that. Honestly, even if you can prove you have a brother that uses Sythe, you should be limited to 1 account per IP because you are technically responsible for your IP. Even if you prove that your brother has a Sythe account, and he scammed on it, both of the accounts on your IP would be banned as a safety precaution...

This would be no different.
