    Question about college

A teacher of mine explained to me how talking with the college admission offices can better your chances of getting into a state college.

Does this sound factual? Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks,

    Question about college

Don't you have to talk with admission?.. You have to fill out your transcript, decide on classes, and it's rather common to talk with the admission offices.
It's better for them to put a face to the paper. If they remember you, higher chance you'll get in.

    Question about college

Not necessarily. A friend of mine that graduated last year applied to 10 schools or so and got into every one of them without even speaking to anyone. He just wrote his essays and visited a campus.

I think it's only necessary if your grades weren't always great.

    Question about college

It may not help, but it certainly won't hurt as long as you don't be a douche around them. I've gotten friendly with the Assistant Dean of Admissions at one of the nicer colleges around me and he guaranteed me a spot in the school as long as I kept up with the work I was putting out.

    Question about college

It'll always help. Your friend who got into all of his schools was obviously above their standards anyway, but seeing them face-to-face is always going to help. You may not need the help, but it still helps.

    Question about college

Are they mega-rich and/or legacies? If not, I highly doubt they're going to Ivy league schools.

Anyway, I got into University just by sending my transcript and applying online. It was pretty damn easy...but I guess it wouldn't hurt to talk to one of the admissions people or the Dean.
