Just a theory to help him with his suggestion, I don't personally agree with it. I'm just helping him out

    Relevance to thread?

    Oops forgot to post that.

Well basically yes , the title it's self is a great idea.
But implementing certain aspects of your post may be harder than you just typing them...It would be good it the current MODs / Globals MM'd more.

Maybe could be part of the Mod job , to insure people get safe trades which in return creates a safer community. But its easier said than done.

maybe you could request a temp closure of registration instead (1-4 weeks will only be known by admin) although this may seem like a bad thing in the short term it but gives amp time to ban evaders, Scammers ect and then the site will be clean.
Then once the registration is back up its just a matter of catching them walking through the door.

    1) Unfortunately this is impractical and would destroy the market. People need to learn how to take pictures of the conversation.
    2) OMMs need to be carefully scrutinized which is why we have so few.
    3) FireZ
    4) Once again, ranks, posts, join date mean nothing. It's all about your reputation.

Why should this be implemented? If someone gets scammed, it was their responsibility to take pictures of the MSN conversations.

This is not a position to take lightly, it's one that requires dedication and trust. In addition, people who trade without one are foolish, not to mention there are plenty of other Middleman around, that can be trusted to a certain extent.

There are already plenty of great staff, such as Chase, whose work usually does not get noticed. I've seen plenty of staff banning them, so I don't think this is a problem.

It does show a degree of trust, considering that a $100 Donator would not scam anything below that, usually. However, I do see your point, but there's nothing really to be done.

    I hope you're trolling XD!

    - Msn is a reliable way of trading, and if someone doesn't feel safe do it over PM. It's offsite, if Sythe were to make this a rule they'd lose a lot of people.

-OMMs have to do the process, as well; someone doesn't have to do the trade right then. Why don't they wait till an OMM is online?

-Suggesting mods is already on the DNS, there's a new system in place to help catch ban evaders, and current mods are already doing a great job.

-Donators aren't "trusted." All they did was give to the site, this shows investment; therefor, they have lower "incentive" to scam.

    Edit:
    This^
Spyike was a reputable member before he even donated, got mod, etc. Saying this, he was already trusted even with his lack of many trades etc.

I dont entirely agree, what would new users do, they are probably familiar with msn, please explain how we would trade then( instead of msn).

    Haha! Oh, wow.

No. How the fuck do you suggest traders trade in future? PM?
My PM system doesn't even work properly.

Then maybe you should encourage more to apply. Or maybe, traders should stop being dumb fucks and using idiot leechers as MM's and expecting them to trustworthy.

From what i've seen, the mods are more active in the IP hunting business at this day and age.

Then maybe we should educate the sythe members not to take that as a symbol of trust.

All in all, you can avoid getting scammed pretty easily. I've only been scammed twice in 3 years. One by a chargeback which I afterwards got my account back that I sold, so no loss, and the first time when I joined in 2007 I got scammed by a guy called Gummybear because I was a newbie and didn't know how it all worked properly.

    Never, that's idealistic, not practical.

That'd respectively increase amount of OMM's who have scamming traits.

Brings more staff into the picture, and more chance one'll scam, so no.

    That's utterly subjective?

I've been thinking about this and I've always wondered...and there probably is a reason why they can't do this but...

Why can't sythe assign us a special email that we must use for trades as our msn? This would prevent imposter scams and other similar. For example, mine would be: [email protected]

I'm sure they'd have already thought of this, but I though I'd suggest this all the same.

I think it should be harder to register.
Like, make it so you have to verify the email you put in.
Make it that you can't post for 48 hours after you create your account
    etc

Stuff like this may help reduce evaders.

So, I've been thinking of ways to reduce scamming on Sythe.

Mods already do search for evaders.
Sythe has no way of regulating trade over MSN, people can trade how they want, although they can encourage trades through IRC.

OMMs have to complete a vigorous application. If an OMM isn't on, someone can used a trusted MM.

Donation status actually CAN make people more trusted in the eyes of others. I.E. I donated $300, so forgetting everything you know about me and just look at the numbers, I have no vested interest in scamming anything beneath $300. Again, Sythe can't control what people put in their thread titles in regard to how trusted they are, and I doubt limiting donors from doing this will reduce scamming.

    A.K.A No support on any.
