State of OSRS

Hi All,

Im curious to know what everyone’s thoughts are on the state of the current game OSRS is at, apart from the recent updates which have had good and bad reviews, where do you see the game heading?

Personally, RuneScape had a major appeal to me when Clan wars was in the wilderness, Fally PvP was pumping, Wilderness was always full, the economy was stable and gold prices were high.. but looking at it now, there are less and less new people starting to play, purely surviving on older players whom have less interest in PvPn due to the new technical level requirements and lack of updates and it just doesn’t like OSRS has many active years ahead of it.. maybe that’s just me? What’s your guys thoughts

 

It's a grind. Bot if you want. Play the game how you enjoy.

I consider myself one of the people that stopped PvP'n after everything i enjoyed about it died off, but i guess what i'm asking in general is just whats everyone's thoughts on the longevity of OSRS due to the multiple factors mentioned above.

PVP is the only reason I play the game

Everything else is boring

 

PVM will continue to become more popular and the game will thrive on that. I don’t have any interest in PVP and I don’t think I ever will. Pking has killed that for me. If Pking wasn’t a thing then maybe I would have.

I enjoyed DT2 and I see great things coming in the future with Varlamore.

 

Bro pking is pvp. I died plenty of times before I got good. Hey, even the best still die.

 

I think it mainly comes down to what Jagex does in the next year in terms of botting. Players can't even safely learn to PK because bots overtake LMS. The PVM content is great but the glory of RuneScape is that you could always go through great quests, great PVM, and then take a walk on the wild side with PKing, all in a single day.

It'll be interesting to see what the Jagex Launcher does to the botting problem, since it'll force botters to put at least 20 of their accounts on the same IP, or have different computers for a number of different bots. In the end, the individual proxy scenario is seemingly in peril. I'm sure programmers will also find their own way around obstacles, but something like a mandatory JaGex launcher and JaGex Accounts seem like a large counteroffensive - one of the largest JaGex has made to date.

Honestly, botting is the nail in the coffin for the game - EVERYONE but the botters themselves are better off with it being dampened.

 

Sure it’s pvp but without one players consent lol. I do like to watch PvP with players who want to fight each other though. Odablock for example.

 

There is PVP Worlds & Bounty hunter where 2 people willingly fight

 

OSRS is really the ideal game for grinding for rewards and have a real-world outcome if you sell. Great for social activities and such. Given it being almost 2 decades of having a large community really shows how well OSRS was developed. I'm always seeking and trying games to find the next big thing but nothing really can compete to OSRS.

 

I think limiting the wilderness access to certain worlds to condense it down would be fire. would drive the prices up for wildy content. They def do gotta do something about pking clients that itself is ruining the game, people have no problem botting accounts to fund their pkers. If they cant pk evenly then they dont want to pay for their 4 alts to bot while they Pk missing out on 5 accounts total revenue for Jagex.

 

If you're an ironman or play ironman mode, the game is going in a good direction for you. Updates are primarily made with irons in mind, excluding pvp. The game will survive for the next decade. I'm not so sure about how much the market will be affected. As it stands, gold is highly inflated. I can't imagine how cheap it'll get in the distant future.
