Are we born with our genetic personalities or is it made from our experiences?

We are born with a foundation of our personality, but you will only exhibit your true nature as you develop and experience the world.

 

Your personality is built as soon as your born, The moment you are born, you are dressed in the clothing which is coloured generally to your gender, you're give cars if your a boy when you grow older as toys, dolls for girls.

Your personality mimics your father, or if your closer to your mother or your father isnt present, your personality will mimic slightly of your mum.

 

They are clearly learned, look at identical twins. They can have totally different personalities, even though they share the same DNA, went to the same school, and grew up in basically the same circumstances.

I believe your personally is completely dependent on how you're brought up and the experiences you go through in your life.
You're born as a blank page, and others around you begin to write the book when you're little, then you take over once you reach a conscious age.

 

Genes have the ability to determine your physical appearance. Your personality is definetely a result from experiences and who you're with most of the time.

 

Our behavior and personalities are learned from our environment.

Learned from Experiences/Environment.

 

there have been studies done that study personalities of twins raised in different environment. There were more similar personalities than different. clearly genetics do play a role.

 

Yes genetics play some role....Although environment and your experiences have a bigger influence...I guess both shape your personalities..

 

how can you tell environment has bigger influence?

 

Well...Experiences....if everybody was mean to you then you would be a mean person...because of the bad experience..but if everyone was nice to you...you would be nice back...

 

then that's your behavior not a trait (<-- personality)

 

Genetics play a role in it, but it is not entirely dependant on your genes. My brother and I are only one year apart and are nearly identical. However, he is an ass(best way I can think of describing him). I always try my best to hold doors for people, I try to have the best manners, I tend to not go to many social events.

My brother goes to every social event you can think of, he never holds doors, he gets mad extremely easily, etc.

 

I personally think genetics would play this role: Genes carry on etc. For example: Your height COULD be a genetic play role from your father & mother. ( May be even earlier on )

Enviroments would play the way you act, the attitude, I don't think you're genes would carry your emotions or behaviours unless you had a family member who has some sort of mishap.

My conclusion:

Genes may effect everyday behaviour and character traits; but overall experiences with others and the enviroment you live in would obviously be a long -term change in our lives.

 

You develop your personality due to those around you, you "evolve" your personality due to life experiences.

 

both of these made our personalities, everyone has his different childhood and their working experience and life experience

 

can you link me to these studies? I believe genetics have nothing to do with it to be honest. One of my best friends has a twin. My friend likes to party, go out, etc etc. He's confident, gets girls, does good in school, etc etc.
Now his twin, has low self esteem, stays at home all day and plays WoW, doesn't talk to any girls (has a long distance relationship with some fat chick that isn't very good looking..) an has a lot less social skills than his brother.
As you can see, they have different personalities even though they are twins, they were similar when they were kids, they did everything together, but once you are your own person, you make certain choices that spark your interest and that shapes your personality to what it is.

 

Living proof we get it through our experiences, I was raised into a violent and dark family, alot of my family were bikie members, my brother turned out just like my cousins, father and uncle and most of them are serving time for drug trafficking/manufacturing, I however grew up differently, there were times where I thought I was in hell but my friends and loves ones helped me through it, all the good times we had made it worth it, I was often bashed and suffered as a kid, this made me hate the kind of people they are instead of becoming like them, today im 27 with a beautiful wife and son, I work as a builder and believe I am a good person.

Now you tell me if I got my personality and am the way I am because of genetics or personal experiences.
