    A warning about signed clients

This should be a big red flag for anyone who uses signed clients for added speed. They can pretty much see anything you do/have if they wanted to. So, watch out. But as a counterpoint, it's argued on the thread that this was taken from that they have no right whatsoever to check on your processes and personal files. Just because they can doesnt mean they will.

For reference, this was taken from http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59019

EDIT: See this link https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Warden_(software) Blizzard installs a software to detect cheaters. It can check any running known cheating DLL's among other things. Judges allowed for it though. So not only does Jagex have the technical ability to do it, they have the legal right too.

Yeah, but they can if they so wished. But I agree with you, they could be sued extensively and even faced with criminal charges if this happened.

that's silly :p they wouldn't do that seeing as it's illegal.
    though they could i suppose.

they could also implement a dropper into their client which would make all rs players a part of their botnet to DDOS other sites, but that doesn't mean they will.

I am 100% sure that they would not do that. It is an invasion of privacy, and could easily get sued.
Yes they COULD do it. They will not though.

The only thing I found that could be possible is the tracking of mouse movement/patterns.

If you use windows XP got to the C:\ directory, just the hard-drive, along with "program files" there should be another folder called ".jagex_cache_32"!

Yep, that's where the client is I'm pretty sure, right on the C drive, not hidden anywhere lol. They put it with all the very most important folders in your computer like "WINDOWS" (operating system .dll's) and "Documents and Settings" (all your stuff).

So this shows they can put stuff on your computer, as they already have lol!

So going by this, they could see ANYTHING you do, they could put a keyogger, a virus, etc. The possiblilites of what Jagex could do are infinite!

But of course as stated above all those are criminal offences in a lot of countries, so they would never dare.

    A warning about signed clients

If you run the signed client, they can do anything you can do on your computer, which includes countless nasty things. I'll list a few below, but it's pretty near infinite what they can come up with.
    Check running processes (running scar.exe?)
Scan the contents of you hard drive (have any bots or scripts in there)
Look at your browser history (have you ever searched 'runescape cheating', visited moparisthebest.com or SRL?).

They could even install code that runs on boot to check all of these things.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
No, they can not and they do not, or cheating would not have lasted past '07. Some of this is illegal, others are diffucult to do; especially on a mass scale.

    Wrong.

Scar.exe is a botting program, one of the first ones after autorune. Way before rsbot [now Powerbot], Nexus, anything else. And the guy I quoted this from knows what he's talking about...

EDIT: Look at this: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Warden_(software) Blizzard did that, they installed that software on people's computers to check running cheating DLL's among other things. Judges in court allowed it...

You are clearly not a big picture type of guy.
Jagex has long since realized runescape was made way too large. They know that the goals (99s) take way too long to complete, but they can't change it because they would piss off everyone who has ever gotten a 99.
Of course Jagex doesn't support botting, but they won't go to such trouble to catch a botter (unless your account is in the top 1k in the world). Even so, they would only view what they could legally see. Why would a corporation such as Jagex risk millions of dollars in settlement money over one runescape account that doesn't even take money away from them?

    Lol.. Useless topic.

It doesnt matter if they CAN do it because they WONT.

They would be sued to badly, and claims would come up from all over with as many RS players as there are.

Ive botted 5 99's using signed, with MULTIPLE bots running at once. About 3.

    Never had any problems.

You half-brained fucktard, that's where jagex stores the runescape cache and data. Lmao, why don't you delete it and make sure they do not install anything there again? then try playing your little precious runescape character you wasted 6 years (1/2 of your life) on. They cannot do shit, if you actually knew anything about computers or how games work (you obviously dont) then you'd know it requires a stored cache to run at an efficient speed. And you are freaking out that they put it in the windows folder, windows folder itself isn't too important, there's other folders INSIDE of that folder that are important, but just because they put it there doesn't mean they will hack you. How about you stop playing? oh damn, you cannot because you have to impress every 11 year old girl, oops I mean boy in runescape how you just got your dragon longsword and granite body. And quit trying to be all smart such as, "But of course as stated above all those are criminal offences in a lot of countries, so they would never dare." because it's the knowledge that counts, not stupid assumpsions a 12 year old child makes. Now get back to your mother, you need your breast-feed.

Enough of you sir =\ thats a little rude....

Anyways back on topic, its HIGHLY unlikely for them to do anything of the sort stated above since its Illegal, its a Corporation, they have priority's and catching one 13 year old kid botting on Runescape isnt really worth breaking the law and risking a lawsuit.

This is interesting, being the paranoid person I am, I might start botting on unsigned clients.
