Get rid of the Members List

Edit: Suf reminds me that you can use it to see who has the most posts. Maybe just get rid of the search box then

Agreed. Can't even use it. Can I ask what kind of "abuse" was happening through the Members' List, that it be disabled?

I think people searched way too many times, and slowed Sythe down a lot.

 

Skele answered this question somewhere once, and basically he couldn't really disclose the details. He recommended using google with the little "site: sythe.org" if you needed to find someone

It was being abused to recover old 2005-2006 accounts.

As for this, I don't want it removed; instead, it should be re-linked. Sythe should make it so it takes you to Google with the proper site:sythe.org. Or even so you can search from it, but by Google.

Not if you don't know the actual name of the account. People just used to go through that list and find unused names and try to take them. With that being disabled, it's harder for people to do that.

Yes, if that's the case, do what Tmoe stated and search their name. I'm assuming the main reason it was tooken away was because people were trying to recover old accounts.

I think only the active accounts should be displayed. There are tons of pages of accounts with zero posts. That way accounts can't be recovered and it can still be used properly.

It's not the accounts being recovered - it's the emails associated with them. After a certain period of inactivity, many email providers delete accounts.

 

Maybe have a link for top posters at forum bottom and remove members list?

 

I would suggest eliminating the list, and only showing the top posters, top referers, etc.

 

I sometimes use that to browse the Sythe top posters. You can actually view up to 200 top posters instead of 30 just by changing the link from:

http://sythe.org/memberlist.php?&order=DESC&sort=posts&pp=30

To

http://sythe.org/memberlist.php?&order=DESC&sort=posts&pp=200

 

so if the email is deleted how can someone recover the account without any proof its theirs.
