New Scam

Necromancer24 made a thread about a week ago talking about a new scam he faced, so I will make a thread about a scam I faced. This scam is a very complicated one that can end up getting you banned with evidence and scamming someone else out of hundreds.

In my case, the scammers were [email protected] and someone else, both ban evaders.

Scammers: Person A, Person B
Person being Scammed: Person C
Person being framed: You

1. Person A adds you on MSN
2. Person B adds Person C on MSN, claiming to be you
3. Person B tells Person C that he will PM you a code word (in this case bananna99) to prove that Person B is who he says he is (you)
4. Person A tells you about a lucrative MM oppertunity for a large trade, and asks you to PM "them" a specific codeword, however, you are actually PMing Person C.
5. If you PM the codeword (I didn't), Person C now thinks person B is you, and will be scammed by them. Then, you will be framed and banned.

It is pretty complicated, post if you don't fully understand it.

 

Wow, I'm amazed at the extent some scammers take just to make a quick buck.

 

I ALWAYS force the traders to pm me. If they don't then they can leave my msn conversation.

 

This is exactly what I was saying when Chris was trying to bring the rule of no pm = no refund.

Also this is quite old just nobody really knows about it.

Not really a new scam.. People try this consistently with me when I regularly MM'd. I always run their emails first as well I get a PM from the person.
Along with that, I include my email within the PM.

It really isn't that difficult to avoid.

 

This has been around for a while in several different forms. I would suggest having the person pm you a quote from the msn chat. I do that a fair a bit and I find it quite helpful to know that I am not dealing with any impostures.

 

They go to soo much bother now.

Just always play it safe.

 

Just make sure that you ensure the pm's you send and receive when trading contain some valid information, not code words and rubbish like that, e.g.:

Hi,
Currently talking to you on msn about trading XXXX for XXXX.
My msn is: XXXX, my PayPal is: XXXX
Talking to your msn: XXXX,
Thanks.

Takes about 30 seconds to type out. If they don't agree or want you to do something strange, then it's a pretty safe bet that they're up to something dodgy.

 

This scam has been around for about three years. There are two ways to counter it.

A) Asking them to PM you.

B) Stating your msn in the PM, as well as stating who you're talking to.

I always use the latter. Much more effective.

 

This is very confusing lol but your saying Person C is the scammer trying to be you (person A)?

 

This has happened to me months ago but it was sorted out before anyone was scammed.

Alot of effort for a pathetic 9 year old scammer. Why would you scam gaming accounts? there ment to be fun, they just seem to make them pointless.

In the PM, you should just include your MSN,the MSN which asked for the PM,and part of the conversation.
