What Classifies A Person As Being Smart?

What do you think makes a person intelligent?

 

I think there are lots of qualities that makes some one "smart." Probably the most common is doing well in school, college or work. There are other times of being "smart" that people don't necessarily call them smart but they really are. For instance knowing when to invest or dump your stocks in a company. You could also call some one smart if a bully pushes them and they decide not to fight because of the consequences down the road. There are a lot of things that make people smart.

 

Generally, i see a smart person from:
There vocabulary when talking
Grammar
Someone who thinks of the consequences of their actions

 

Rational decision makers have the vote in my book.

 

It all depends on your definition of "smart" or "intelligent." I think that your IQ displays your intelligence level.

Define Smart for me.
Intelligent and knowledgeable are two different things.

 

Using good vocabulary while talking has nothing to do with how smart you are. Just because you don't speak with a nice vocabulary doesn't mean you don't have a good vocabulary.

 

Someone who can think about the consequences of an action, Vocabulary does not matter.

Hell, Look at Einstein would you classify him as smart? (Here's a fact about Einstein, He could not Tie his own shoes or dress himself).

See this is an interesting one, because I'm a fan of, and a big quality I look for in my friends, is being smart. I may sound l0l1337, but seriously. I don't so much classify someone as smart if they do better than a certain average or something like that, but my big #1 is learning. I think someone that can learn something quickly is much smarter than someone who knows lots of definitions or something like that. I'm going to use gun games as an example. If you notice such things, in FPS games, people who can apply strategies and learn from mistakes are usually smarter than people who don't do things like that. In reverse, people who are blatantly stupid are usually really bad at video games. Dunno, some food for thought.

 

Intelligent and knowledgeable are somewhat different. Being intelligent, to me, would be able to understand and interpret things of all sorts very well..or having a high IQ. Knowledgeable would be just well informed so to speak. However, I suppose if you have a high IQ you are knowledgeable..so there is an overlap.

Think of it this way
"Knowledge" is having information (data, facts, etc.) and "intelligence" is knowing what to do with it

I think of people being smart, when they are both knowledgeable and intelligent.

 

The ability to hold ones own in a conversation with any person in the world would classify a person as smart in my book.

And smart is a matter of opinion, to some, someones stupid ass friend might be the "smartest" person they know. Whilst to others, he's a moron. Theres many ways of being considered "smart", common sense, and booksmarts. Just saying.

 

Somebody who is logical/rational

 

I disagree with having a good IQ makes you smart.

You can be smart in different areas.. Some people are Technology smart, some are the Science, Math, Enligh smart and some are trade smart.

 

A person that has Intellectual and Logical thinking that uses it to its full potential.

 

I suppose I should rephrase the question since it can get a bit confusing.
