Traded an account and it got locked.

I just recently sold an account to another user on sythe, and we used an OMM. The trade went smoothly and quickly, but after he got the account, he went to account recovery to reset everything and put his own recoveries and email on, and it ended up getting locked. What do you think should be done about this as far as refunding or not. It's kind've a moral decision because I gave him the account and it was then locked because of him. I had no access to the account, and didn't try to recover it or anything of the sort. I'm trying to unlock the account now, but until the appeal is accepted or declined, I was wondering what you as a community think about it.

In the event that the account can't be recovered, perhaps you could refund 50% of the cash - Provided you have proof that the account really is locked?

At least this way, you both have some compensation. You lost your account and the other guy lost his cash. I'd say split your losses 50/50.

Well, I tried to recover password after he told me it was locked, and it was locked so I went ahead with the lock recovery. I suppose the 50/50 deal does make the most sense, and is what I was thinking. I really hope that the appeal goes through though...

 

The money is going to be refunded if the account can't be unlocked.

I highly doubt that the original owner isn't able to unlock his own account.

 

Well, i recently had to recover and unlock an account for a friend (The person who i sold it to).

As the seller it is your responsibility to get the account back. If you cant you must refund them.

Also adding recoveries and an email wouldn't get the account locked.

 

The same thing happened to me pen. I was doing an account trade with RsProd and he couldn't recover it but i could. It has something to do with the ip addresses. I believe if the original ip had contact with the account within a short time frame then any appeal will be denied. This is just my belief on it but im pretty sure on it.

 

I know I am trying to recover it and it should be recovered, but it's a locked account, so maybe not. And it wasn't that he put new recoveries and a new email on it that got it locked, but that he tried to recover the password, maybe because I had to earlier because I was scammed once, and had to recover it, so the battle between people trying to recover it must be what got it locked.

 

Only the original owner can appeal a lock.

Jagex wont just hand it over to someone that has the information.

 

Ok, if that's the case, hopefully I'll get it back after the appeal is over. It is making me anxious seeing as lock appeals take alot longer. Just waiting for it to happen.

 

Yeah mine took around 28 hours* not days my bad. Its because they are checking all the information and verifying you are the owner. Also when it is locked they delete recoveries email etc.

 

Now that I think about it, I don't understand why I'm responsible for a refund. The trade was completed, and he didn't ask for recovery during the process. I made no attempts at recovery, and his recovery got it locked.

 

Ok, thanks for the info. As of now its been about 18 hours. Before i go to bed it'll have been about 24, and then after school tomorrow will be about 40. Hopefully if it isn't done today it will be by then.

 

That just made you look like a scammer.

The account is your responsibility. It became locked after you and another person tried to recover it. It is YOUR fault.

 

I never tried to recover it, and sorry if it made me seem like i was a scammer, but the trade was completed and then the account was locked when he messed with it. It just seems odd to me.

You are responsible for it, if you cannot unlock the account you will most likely be banned from sythe.

 

When i said I never tried to recover it, I meant i didnt after we traded. I had previous to the trade but not once we had traded.

 

Well, the appeal went through and it is recovered, so once i talk to him everything will be fine. I'm sorry what I said sounded like I was scamming, I guess I didn't word things very well. I never meant to sound like I wasn't going to refund him, just that it seemed odd to me that the blame landed on me. I was more looking for clarification on that then anything, and wasn't trying to refuse what Pen said.
