How to Change Spark Plugs [On an Jet-ski]

While it's extremely easy to do such a task, many people are oblivious to it. If you ever plan on owning a jet-ski, or consistently using one; you must know how to do this.

Why would I have to change the spark plugs?
    When you:
    • Winterize a ski
    • Plugs get wet
    • Cylinders etc. get wet
    • etc.
Also, you may have to change plugs while underway. If so, be careful not to lose equipment.

    Changing the Plugs
#1 Take the Ski cover off. If on a lake etc, set it on the side of the ski leaning against the hull.

#2 You must remove the cover on the plugs. (Do this on all of the plugs, not just one. Only did 1 plug to show example.)

#3 You may use a wrench, or a ratchet to take off the plug. Most of the time skis have tool kits you can buy. I suggest you buy the kit for your ski since they include basically anything needed for maintenance. (Didn't have mine on my Ski.. Was in friend's car.) You will then turn it to loosen the plug. Once it's loose enough, I suggest you hand turn it. As well, be very careful; you can lose a wrench etc. easily. It's normally a very cramped compartment within the ski and you can easily drop it. Worst case scenario, it falls into the lake and you're in trouble :3..

#4 After you've completely removed the plug, you'll be able to see a hole (this leads to cylinders etc.) If for some reason, any of it may have got wet; be sure to let it dry out. As well, if available; spray ether/dry-gas within. This will quicken the time, but be careful. Ether is VERY flammable.

#5 Placing the plug back on is simple as taking it off. Simply hand tighten it, and then tighten it up with a wrench or ratchet. You should follow the same procedure doing all the plugs.

Good Things to Know/Need to do

    • ALWAYS check your Bilge Plug (ski will sink if it's not in.)
    • You should carry a waterproof bag with a cell phone in-case something happens.
    • Make sure you have the proper tools encase of break-down.
    • Bring the proper safety measures, if not a phone a signaling mirror and a whistle .
    • ALWAYS winterize your ski properly. If not done properly, it won't start next year.
    • Try not to stay in the same constant area so the engine doesn't annoy people.
    • Follow all other boating regulations for where you live.

    Enjoy, CC only please.. :p

    I'd have to agree with KingCrackerJacks, I myself have a Sea-Doo RXT aS 260 with a supercharged/intercooled 1,494cc engine.

Not going to lie, but changing spark plugs on a jetski isn't something most owners need to know.

However, well informed and written guide. If you were a completely new craft owner this would teach you how to do it :)
