Thin Crust Vs. Deep Dish Pizza

For nearly 100 years, the people of the U.S have debated which Pizza was America's original Pizza and it is about time where we heard the voices of the sythe community and their input on this topic. It is on going for quiet some time and really depends where and how you were brought up, here are brief descriptions of each of the pizza's background...

    Thin Crust Pizza
this type of pizza was introduced when Italian immigrants started to come to the United States. starting with New York. When they would come to the new country, they would bring along there family backgrounds with them, that is including there recipes. Many of these Italians saved up money from doing labor in order to open up there own, family oriented restaurants, one of the main reasons they came to this country, and that is where thin crust pizza was born. Traditionally it was a very thin, homemade pizza dough with your basic sauce and cheese or margarita pizza (fresh sliced tomatoes instead of sauce, named after queen Margarita, the creator of the idea to make the pizza) placed directly onto the bottom of a brick oven, once finished, various spices such as basil would be added. this pizza is most well know for its extravagant various amount of flavors.

    Deep Dish Pizza
The second type of pizza was originally from Chicago, Illinois at the original Uno Pizzeria. Just like every other pizza place, it served thin crust pizza. Until one day a customer went up to the owner of the pizza place and wanted a pizza that would fill him up more. that is when the started implementing various ideas and eventually came up with the deep dish pizza, a pizza with a much thicker crust and more sauce, cheese, and topping. the deep dish pizza traditionally was made in a pie pan but they ended up making them deeper in order to fit more in the crust. although deep dish pizza was not the 1st pizza in the US, many deep dish enthusiasts say it is the type of pizza that really sparked the popularity of pizza in the United States

Feel free to vote which you think is America's pizza, and post some extra thoughts why you think your pizza is number one! may the best pizza win :D

Deep dish is what would be referred as 'regular' here (America). You have to specifically ask for thin crust if you want it, as if you don't specify it's understood you want deep dish.

My personal vote on which tastes better would have to go to thin crust;I am a fan of crunchy foods. :D

When I think Deep Dish I think of that disgusting 4-inch tall mass of sauce and cheese that people call food, not regular pizza.

This is Deep Dish. I've never heard anyone in America call this "regular pizza".

Yes, I know I'm not American but I think I have the right to vote anyway :)

I prefer Deep Dish, it's much more filling which is vital for someone like me who eats a lot :p

Funny that you made this thread as just had some pizza earlier today. :) I prefer thin crust over deep dish any day. Although I still think deep dish taste alright, I would still rather have thin crust.

I prefer thin crust because its crunchy. Deep dish is OK, but it can get messy.

I prefer pan. It has better texture, and crunch, but I don't like that many toppings either.

I grew up on Lou Malnati's and Giordanos so my vote would have to go towards deep dish.

I work at a pizza place and make probably 50 pizzas every night.

Out of those pizzas, I would say 65 to 75% are deep dish pizzas.
