How to reveal any hidden password!

Nowadays, most browsers come with the option to save your usernames/passwords. When you're at a login page with a saved password, the username will show up nice and clear, but the password will be masked by asterisks or some other symbol so it cannot be read by those watching the person typing in the password. But what happens when you forget all of your saved passwords on yahoo/facebook/*******/whatever? You could go and buy some fancy program to reveal the password, or use this simple get-around!


Step 1
Navigate to one of your saved passwords such as this:

Step 2
In your address bar, paste this little snippet of code and hit enter/return. Important: DO NOT append the code to the end of the URL, make sure to REPLACE the entire thing If you think you'll need this again, create a bookmark ("favorite" in Internet Explorer) in your browser with this code as the url. I won't get into how to create a bookmark, as it varies from browser to browser.

Step 2.5
After hitting enter/return, you should get a message that looks like this:


Remember: The space after the colon is not part of the password


And if you try to be clever and use this code on a page with no password forms (or if you leave the password form empty), you will receive a message like this:

This is a really good guide. I always wondered how, or if you could somehow find out what the password is from the censered things. Your layout on your thread is great and can only fault one thing. Which is that your title you have to turn the text red first, then underline it like this. Not underline then turn to red like this. If it's intentional then okay.

I've spell checked the guide and it's good no spelling mistakes I have seen. My only criticism is the length, however it is short the point gets put across quicker and easier which is good, and you couldn't really lengthen it, I wouldn't really see that needed.

It's quite flamboyant and interesting as well which is always good using colour. I'll probably be using this guide since my brother keeps changing my facebook password, so thanks. Great guide and best of luck if applying for UE.

 

Thanks for the feedback Rhodesy, I had all but forgotten about this. To the point about the underlining, thanks for the tip. The underline color never crossed my mind, but I think I like the contrast there.

 

This is great lol, Would this work if you was at someones house and they entered there runescape password? Not going to do it just curious if it works for everything?

 

Is there any way that you can do something like this for a program that doesn't have any asterisks?

Edit: This doesn't work... Tried it on FaceBook and it reroutes itself back to this page.. Tried it on my email, doesn't work. I'm using FireFox.

 

runefisher, it probs wont work as that isnt an html hidden textbox, it's in the java applet.

Flight, I just tried it on Chrome, worked perfectly. Are you sure you copied the code? I'm trying Firefox right now

Edit: As I thought, didn't work on runescape.

And I just dl'd and installed Firefox, works for me.

Ohhh I see what you're doing, you're supposed REPLACE the address with it, not append it on.
