Demoted

So...i was demoted on a site that i helped to run.
Srs thread is srs, please leave trolls.
I don't run it or anything, but i was one of the three who started the site. I funded the site ($40) which was a lend and has been paid back, but is why i was made global moderator in the first place.
Anyway, the site is relatively new, so apparently we weren't warning (infracting) for spam or anything along those lines. Coming from Sythe, it seemed weird to me so i began to warn people for spammed posts. There were a lot. The administrators (a very good friend and another friend) told me to stop and reversed all of my warnings. I also gave two more warnings for "staff disrespect" where someone called me a bitch for warning them for spam, and another told me to "smd" which apparently weren't warranted. Those also got me in shit with the admins. The last straw apparently was accepting a suggestion and denying another that were correct, but wasn't my job as global.
I did ask for a demotion to Runescape Moderator and Head Runescape Educator, which is what i was planning to be when the site started, and that was about a day before my demotion. I still might get those positions back, but i just feel like shit. I've moderated quite a few websites and private servers, and i never did such a bad job. I don't know what it is, but i feel like i deserved more control than i got around there, so i just assumed that i deserved it, and took it.
I did make a public apology for my actions a few days ago, which helped, and i was doing great for another couple of days.
Am i a bad moderator? Or am i just a bad person?

 

Your not a bad person. I think you were just having a rough time. I wouldn't be pleased to see a sea of spam either and not be able to do anything about it knowing I had the permissions needed to make it go away.

That site needs leadership and a structured set of rules or it will never get going.

I'd suggest you walk away for a few days or even possibly a week and then go back and start fresh.

 

Yea that definitely would not be your fault, it would make sense to try to keep the site as civil as possible. If you let others spam away with no consequences it would turn into a fail version of 4chan.

Standards of Conduct.. In short, the lack of maintaining acceptable standards of conduct is a hint of upcoming failure. Your actions were correct based upon what I see, and can understand. Remember, it is far better to depart an activity/organization than to modify your own standards of conduct to fit in. You'll do well in Life!

 

I don't want to ragequit, but the admins are really unresponsive usually, and especially now because they don't have to care, and they're doing some hardcore coding, but now we have 0 moderators doing anything on the site.
It feels like i just did so much in a small period of time that's now going to waste.

No, you're not a bad moderator. It's what I would have done. I was even demoted for that a while back on another site. I just said "Fuck it" and left.
Basically, when the site is new, the admins generally don't want too many warnings/infractions thrown around as it makes people quit. When the site is in its early stages, no one wants any members to quit.

I suppose the admins just felt that you were driving members away with your warnings. They're just not being strict with the warnings until the site becomes popular.

I suggest you just forget about it.

I don't really want to forget about it, because It's the only site that i have a chance for being moderator or ANYTHING around. I have a bad habit of going really inactive if i don't get promoted or anything of the sort. I like being ranked, and i generally do a good job, but it just seems pointless to stick around if there's no future.

 

By the way you have described things i would say that you aren't a bad moderator/person by any means. The only situation i can see where there getting mad at you was war warranted was you accepting a suggestion (assuming they had told you that you weren't allowed to do this). It seems to me that you were just doing your job as a moderator and trying to make the community a better place for all. Good for you for trying, some people just have different views on how things should be apparently.

 

I really like Spyike's advice here, but at the same time you don't want to take the position that you are always right and if they disagree it's their problem. They may just do things differently around there and, since you're not in charge, you'll just have to better determine how the admins want you to moderate.

 

Spyike's advice is extremely accurate. The standards of that website seem horrid, and your prescence there seems to have been taken for granted. It is unfortunate that your investment was somewhat of a waste, but there is a lesson to be learned, and it's to be more careful with this kind of stuff. Make sure you are on common ground with everything before taking it too seriously.

Blade, you were demoted for a number of reasons. To sum it up, we didn't think you were handling global very well, which is why we're going to make you a sectional. And you present the situation in the thread with much partiality.

 

Old news is old.
I did leave out a few things, i had been infraction by myself on things that in my opinion were correct, but weren't, because rules weren't yet set up for the things i was doing. I also flamed occasional, but flaming staff...wonder where i got the idea that was okay *looks away*
