    Police Scanners

I've recently gotten into street racing, and have decided to invest in a police scanner. I'm not exactly sure what the term police scanner refers to, but what I'm looking for is not something that picks up on radio communications between the police squad cars and the department. I'm looking for one of those proximity sensors that pick up on radio broadcasts around me and beep according to their distance from me.

Anyone have any more information or know what I'm looking for?

Escort sells some of the best, they're just a bit pricey.

I believe this only works if a police cars' scanners are on. Sometimes it won't even detect it.

It picks up the frequencies of the radar, not the scanner.

On another note; radars can be manually be turned off by police, their scanners can not be, only turned down, however the only time police have their radars turned off is when they're off duty.

Yeah that's what I meant. Like I said though, a police officer has the option of turning it off, meaning it won't be detected by the radar.

True, however he wants to buy a radar so he doesn't get pulled over.

Although they do have the option to turn off their radar, if they are patroling they won't, if their radar is off there is no way to clock you.

He would have to pull you over for something visual; broken light, visual obstruction, etc.
