    Guide to using ventrilo

Hello and welcome to Chriscross23’s guide to obtaining and operating ventrilo.

Ventrilo is an audio program used to talk to other people online. Sort of like Skype and a lot like Teamspeak (except better). In this guide I will touch on how to obtain ventrilo, how to use it, and some tips and tricks to ventrilo. I will start it off by how to obtain it.

First things first, to use Ventrilo you must first download it. To download it we must go to www.ventrilo.com once there, you should see a screen that looks like this:

Once you are here you should look at the left hand side and find the quick link that says download. It has a red box over it in the picture above. Once you have clicked that it will bring you to a page that looks like this.

Once you have downloaded it you just need to install it. Installing Ventrilo is very self explanatory and if you don’t know how to do it just spam click the next button. Congratulations you have now downloaded Ventrilo.

Next I will talk about how to use Ventrilo. First after it has been installed you should run it. Once you have ran it a screen should pop up. Everything should be blank but you should see “Name” “Server” and “Bindings”. Click on the arrow next to name as I have highlighted below

Follow these steps in the pictures below

Now that you have connected to vent you should see a list of channels (assuming you got a vent IP from a friend or someone else who uses vent). On the right column you should see a button that says setup. This is where you chose all of your settings. Personally the settings that I have selected work perfectly for myself so you can either use mine or fidget around with your own.

Once you have done all the settings you should look at the top of the screen at the tab that says “Events”. I personally turn all of mine off so you do not hear whenever someone moves into the channel, disconnects off vent, or reconnects. It gets very annoying so I have turned mine off. Feel free to leave yours on but this is what mine look like:

After you have turned all of those off you should click the tabs that say “Binds” and “Speech”. You should uncheck every option it gives you in those because that stops you from being “page bombed”. A page bomb is where someone spasm you with messages that make your vent go non responsive.

Well that is my guide and I hope it helped you maybe learn a few new things or taught you a lot. Thank you and feedback is always welcome.

This guide is long and somewhat detailed. I think you have done an average job on it, and I only say this because of a few things.

It is very very picture heavy. Pictures are always good, but the UE's would also like to see you explaining it more and using an appropriate amount of text.

Just keep that in mind for your next guide.

Yeah if you look at my other guides there are a lot less pictures and more text. This is a guide that required a lot of pictures. All I could have added for text support to most of them are "click the arrow next to the name button that I have circled". But doesn't the picture show the same thing? I understand what you're saying but that is what was going through my mind. Thank you for your feedback though, I truly do appreciate it.

i feel you should change the color choices, keep it simplistic and to either one color. rainbow colored guides make it seem todler-ish. this is actually to many pictures and not enough wording. Use more words instead of pictures. otherwise, very good guide

i give this guide 7/10 , information 5/5 but the presentation of the guide 2/5

    hope this helps :)

This is one of your stronger guides Chris. Before reading this I had no experience with Ventrilo, all I knew about it was you could speak to other people with it. Now I have more knowledge, which means a successful guide.

One thing that I don't like is the colour and text font. Making it slightly fancier (whether that being with different fonts, sizes or colours) would be a nice improvement. You have used your images reasonably well. They are in the right spots and show help show the information to the reader. The only issue I have with them is they seem to flood the guide, as in there seem to be a lot of pictures and little of anything else. Making the text larger or images cropped/smaller can help reduce this minor issue.

As I said above, I learnt a lot for it. For someone who doesn't know much about Ventrilo the information is definitely at a good amount.

    Overall, a good guide. 7/10.

Thank you. One thing I've given up on is changing the font. Every UE has given me different input on my font and it seems as if I change it to one thing another will be displeased. For now I'm just going to leave them all blank from now on. Seems someone has a problem with every color I choose :p
