    Make Moderator Logs Public

Making Moderator Logs public will allow the community to understand how much work each moderator is doing. It will help us understand who is doing the "behind the scenes" work they claim to be doing, and who isn't.

    Please support, criticize, amend.

I'm not sure how they'd go about doing this, unless you mean display the infraction/ban logs to the public, so we can see who's doing all of the banning/infractioning?

Edit: Actually, on vBulletin.org, there was a modification that showed "Top Moderators". It was a public log that showed the moderators who closed the most threads, moved the most threads, responded to the most reports.. etc. Is this what you're talking about?

It's not necessary. If they are not doing the amount of work they should be doing they will be demoted.

Also, it will just create a popularity contest on whoever has the most.

Wouldn't that be a good thing, to create that competition? It would stimulate moderators to work harder.

It's not a competition though, it's about keeping the site clean.

I know, but if they are compelled to work harder, the site will just get cleaner.

Additionally, wouldn't this competition already exist? The other moderators are their peers, so they already feel compelled to do well.

There's already sanctions if we consistantly don't meet our quota. This wouldn't encourage anyone to do any more than they already are.

I used to be a moderator on a large MMORPG development forum. When the owner added this feature, it did kind of stur up some competition. And the owner used it also to fire moderators who weren't active enough. If they didn't have a certain number of threads closed/moved etc, then they were demoted.

That isn't the point of the suggestion. The point is that people will be able to see how much work moderators are doing.

It's not really the users' job to decide what moderators are doing enough work.

Staff can already see the logs so making them public wouldn't change this.

    Nice to see you here.
No, it is not. However, users still review moderators for being active or not active. Revealing the moderator logs to the public will give them better evidence with which to make these judgments.

In order to make the judgments you have to understand that each section needs a limited amount of logs each month and I don't see that many people either understanding it or caring to understand it.

At the top they could post the requirements for each section/for Globals. Also, the coloring would make that pretty self-explanatory.

There's a lot of actions which don't get counted as mod logs. If everything I did as a mod was counted, I'd have a lot more every month. It's really not an accurate way of judging exactly how active we are.

i dont think this is needed, i believe that mods would get demoted if they weren't active enough. This would just bring drama into sythe.

What isn't counted? Just so I can get a sense.

Even so, the mod logs will give people a better understanding then they have now.

This is actually already the case. These logs are posted where all the moderators can see and each section needs to pass a certain quota a month.

This is very true. Moderator logs aren't an entirely accurate way to judge activity, especially considering how much time has to go into investigating scam reports, ban evaders, etc.

There really isnt much point in this really. If a member of staff isn't doing enough work then they would be demoted
