Cheating

Okay first of please no trolling. This is a serious thread and I am 100% serious about what I am posting, so please trolls go away.


So about 6 days ago. (Last Friday) I was in english class sitting next to one of my friends. The teacher then gave a pop-quiz on the section of our class book/novel that we were suppose to read. Well Both of us forgot to read it and so as we were doing the questions we were talking to each other about what to write or put down for answers. Well we both got the same grade (like a 45% or something.) I thought we were fine (well besides a terrible grade) but then today in class the teacher starts off by asking me and my friend to go out in the hall with him. He told us that he though we were cheating because we had the same answers and even misspelled the same word on both our answers. Well I was about to confess and say that we did cheat, but then my friend blurts in that we didn't and then I agreed with her and the teacher said that he would give us the benefit of he doubt and not give us 0 on the quiz and 2 detentions. I was kind of confused and happy for a moment. (I have cheated and lied about things before just like every one else.) But this time it felt different. I don't know if its my conciseness or what but I feel like I need to go to tell the teacher that we did cheat. I know this sounds like a troll thread or that its something that most people do. I admit I cheat on a lot of my assignments but it just feels like a whole new level this time. I really don't know what I should do. I can either

A. Tell the teacher I cheated and then lied about it. Then I would get a 0% and 2 detentions that go on my record for college applications. I would also get my friend in trouble that cheated with me and we probably wouldn't be friends any more. (I have been friends with her for 7 years now.) The teacher would also tell my parents and then who knows how much more trouble I would be in.

B. Not tell anyone. Really the only thing that would happen with this is I would feel pretty shitty on the inside.


Any advice people? I know the slogan for the site is "Did someone say cheating?" So I don't know what to expect back from you guys but I hope its helpful. Also I don't know if this will change your advice/answer but I am 15 (3 months till 16) and I am in 10th grade. Help?

 

Why would you bother to tell anyone if you got away of it haha

 

I'm not a fan of cheating on tests, etc., but I've done it. Only way I've passed a test a few times. It's not really a big deal, and odds are; your teacher knows you are lieing. I really wouldn't be surprised, if he/she was just letting you off. Either way you did quite dismal on the quiz and there's not much of a gap between a 0 and a 45.
I just wouldn't say anything, it's not a big deal. You only feel bad about it, because you were caught and lied. If you weren't caught with this, odds are; it wouldn't of crossed your mind again.

So let it go.

 

why would you get in trouble, and get your friend trouble for no reason?

Every one has cheated at some point or another, some more than others.

 

I don't like cheating either, but the deed is already set and done. You will get over it in time, the disadvantages of confessing seem to be much greater than a little guilt.

 

I cheated 90% of my school career, who cares? The teachers ratings go up because more students in there class have passed so there happy, you get what you need so your happy, no one is worse off really.

 

Personally I would leave it because teachers hate it when you lie to them and then if you tell them that you lied to them (he'll probably get madder), however I don't think its gonna effect your college application would it? Unless this test was something important...

So just leave it...

 

I would say fine you got away with it now, but don't make a habit out of it. You have gotten away with it this time, but next time you probably won't be so lucky. If it is really getting at you just tell the teacher, adn serve the punishment. Sometimes it's better to do the right thing, rather then letting it eat at you when you do something wrong, and you know it. Hope this helps!

 

Option B is in your best interests. It's not needed to confess a lie in this situation.

Like you said won't be on records, keep a decent grade. No detention and your friend doesn't get the same also.

If your parents are cool and you absolutely feel the need to confess. Try to tell them. But I would consider this post a confession and rest assured your not the first to cheat.

 

If you want to confess, make sure your friend is up for it too. Don't confess if your friend doesn't want to.

Some things it's just best that people don't know.

That's the best advice I can give to you. It's not like it's something bad anyways. There are a lot more worse things. And sometimes you just have to think that you're doing it for your own good.

 

Don't admit to it. It's not worth the grades if your trying to get into college. Sometimes you have to make choices. And this time, I would choose lying.
