Anyone know if a US 1 Month code would word on my British Account?

The title meant to be work of course

I feel like adding live to my first ever account and get it to a 50 and my friend brought me a US 1 Month back from Bestbuy anyone know if this would work on my British Account which is Silver?

1 Months Im pretty sure are the only region-free codes. Everything else is region-specific.

 

I typed the code in on my console and it says "The code gives you the following membership, Redeem Now!" When I press ok it says "Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live" I guess I'll have to make an American Account instead. Thanks your input anyway man.
