Try youtubing guides. I know I started off with that.

As for classes. Tbh I'd start with a ret paladin (DPS) because they are easy to level as you can heal your self, do good dmg, and wear plate. Or a Druid which bear form is sick ( tank ). Or a Hunter. Hunters are fastest levelers as they can use pets and pretty much the pet tanks mobs and you rain down hell.

I went through alot of classes until I actually leveled one and I chose hunter. Glad I did. I love dpsing with hunters.

    http://www.wowwiki.com/Portal:Main

That's a nice site for all info on like classes and about everything. I used this alot when I started.

If any questions pm me for msn =D

Your first toon is your free one. You'll learn everything about the server you're going to play on that way. I'd say choose a normal pve realm. Don't go with pvp unless you're into that.

As was said above, roll a paladin, or a hunter. Druids, I find dreadfully boring.

Paladin's can fill multiple rolls from the beginning on. Hunter's have the added benefit of not getting hit as much as you'll start with a pet that helps out a lot. A rogue/warrior is also a good first timer, as you don't have to worry about mana, which can be a pain.

Mess around with them, find out what you like.

As for videos/guides/etc, it's really just going to take practice. The game will give you a nice beginning progression, just go with it.

Once you hit a major city, type the following:

    /join trade
(whatever # trade is, generally it's 2) /2 Whatever question you have.

Trade goes amongst all cities, so you can ask help from people there, it's usually very active with people willing to help. There's also a lot of trolls though, so beware :).

They're a rough class to start off with as, especially on your first character. Everyone has their own niche, though, so you'll definitely be doing some experimentation.

My guide for you is. Simply quest to level 15, doing this you will get use to your toon ( Character ) and the action bars and bags.

When you reach 15 open the dungeon finder ( the green eye in the toolbar ) and que for your roll (healer/dps/tank ). ( could take up to 10 mins to find a group depending on your class)

While you wait for a dungeon finder keep questing!

Once you ding 20 depending on your race go to the starting village and buy your mount . ( you may need like 3 gold )

Click on the red or blue shield depending on which faction you are ( horde/alliance ) and see if any the battle grounds have writing next to them say "Call To Arms" In this you will earn alot my Xp ( experience points ) and honor.

Honor can be spent at your main city ( you will know when you enter a main city trust me ) for items.

DONT FORGET - to buy your new skills as you level
    - ask for help !

    GOODLUCK!

Honestly if you don't intend on enjoying the questing aspect of the game i'd just grind to 30. I hated questing (when I started I didn't have any add ons and didn't know about websites that tell you how to do each quest so I wasted a lot of time trying to figure them out. If you enjoy exploring, by all means quest. If you played runescape grinding on WoW will seem easy. Grinding just means basically camping somewhere that there are monsters and killing them over and over. This way you don't waste time moving (questing.)

If you are completely new and would suck at fast questing; grind.
If you know what add ons are (Questhelper); questing would probably be faster.

Don't make the MISTAKE that most noobs coming to WoW do.. which is picking the class that they researched as being the most overpowered. Pick the class that you think you would enjoy playing the most. If you like casting, be a mage or a warlock. If you like mellee, be a rogue or a warrior. If you like tanking, research the tanking classes. Same thing for healing. I don't recommend healing a your first character because it will probably be hell boring to train. I say pick what class you would enjoy to play the most because eventually all classes have their ups and downs.. buffs and nerfs as it is called in WoW. One day a rogue can be overpowered and the next he can be really week.

    I'd go with a Paladin.

They have great survivability. You don't get many spells at first, but they all come. Crusader Strike, Exorcism, Divine Storm etc all come nicely. You want to go the Retribution build.

Feel free to PM me of any questions, i'm here to help.

If you want a class that you can just roll your face over the keyboard and kill alot of things with not much skill go paladin or hunter.

If you have alot of skill and experience the most powerful class is druid (imo) though it is all determined on the player not really like runescape where takes no skill (no offence to those who think it does).

Anyway if you are unsure of anything just send me a pm I can help you with any questions you may have. I have been playing for 6 years and one of the best rogues on my server so can answer mostly any of your questions on most classes (apart from priest).

I'd advise a Hunter,Druid or a shaman for the follow reasons

Hunter- You get a permanent companion to assist you at all times when things go rough they can tank for you while you escape then you can revive them.

Also it keeps you at a distance at all times since as a hunter your most effective attacks will be from long range you have no reason to use meele.

You get to set fire traps and frost traps to either assist your pet or used as a defensive trap to help you escape.

The cons to being a hunter is constantly getting ridiculed about being a hunter being called a huntard.
It gets tough because hunters have so many situational abilities at their disposal some are quite useless.
    --------------------------------------
Shaman you can self heal and you have a choice of being a healer, being a ranged amage dealing throwing out lightning bolts, chain lightning and lava or a meele damage dealer using 2 maces combined with windfury for some decent high hits. Either way you will be able to heal yourself dying shouldn't happen unless you get to many on you or simply your not high enough level.

Cons are you have the lowest base health for a mail wearer in the game and meele damage as a shaman sucks til you get dual wield and windfury (at level 40)
    ----------------------------------------
Druids can tank, heal or do meele damage. Very commonly called the jack of all trades. It's true indeed we sometimes can't preform as good as the original class but it's all based on the player. You can be a arcane, balance spell flinging Moonkin or a Bear tank with massive amounts of health then anyone your level would have assuming you are in bear form. A cat doing bleed damage or a Tree of life healing with Heal over time spells.

Cons Can't preform as well as the other classes unless your better geared or are just flat out a better player. You must shapeshift to preform your role well when you unlock the ability to do so. You rarely get to see your true form unless your running around in your natural form.

First thing I'm going to suggest is to get rid of the "which class is best?" mind set. WoW has dozens of possible race/class combinations, and some are chosen for aesthetics(sp) while others are made for the given +stats from racials.

I've seen many great suggestions in the thread, just curious but what realm are you playing on? I play on Doomhammer US, an 80 Orc enhance/resto shaman named Category. If you need any help/wanna join a great server you'd be welcome there, just whisper me in game.

EDIT:: After reading the post above me, let me fill you in on what levelling a shaman is REALLY like, for all 3 specs.

    Elemental (The ranged dps):
Pros: Long range damage, usually the mobs are dead before they get anywhere near you. Also, at 80 you have some insane PvP burst damage. You're also the only caster that can wear mail.
Cons: As an early elemental, your spell choices are somewhat limited. You're just gaining the shock spells, and you get chain lightning a little farther down the line so you're stuck with lightning bolt.

    Enhancement (Melee dps):
Pros: Until 40, you're using 2handed weapons. In the 30-39 PvP brackets you'll see some of the BIGGEST hits from a well geared enhancement shaman, especially on druid/clothy flag runners. After 40, you should move onto picking up dualwielding and find some +Agility axes/maces/or even daggers, if they're slow attack speed.
Cons: You begin to get extremely arrogant after noticing that you're killing everything without taking damage, and may find yourself in too deep with 3-4 elite mobs on you and no mana. (Lol)

    Restoration (Healer):
Pros: While being a healer, your dungeon queues should be noticeably shorter as most people are lazy as fuck and only queue DPS. Resto shaman are able to drop HUGE heals in seconds, as well with some noticeable HoTs and raid heals.
Cons:I'd never suggest levelling a pure healer, unless you've got the patience to level via dungeon finder/battlegrounds.

I'd have to disagree elemental is dull from 1-80 enh is fun but complicated and leveling as resto is a bad idea unless your a quick learner and manage mana at lower lvls which is nearly impossible

it really isn't hard at all. the 1st toon i ever made was a restro druid. at a low level your best bet is to jsut stack int and spam the hell outa healing touch, Rejuvenation, Regrowth. for gear when you 1st start off, i suggest none other than shadowfang keep, i ran my healadin thru there yesturday and got 3 blue upgrades in one run

It is hard for someone on their first toon to know where to go and what instance would drop what. People usually have low tolerance for a tank or a healer that has no idea what is going on.

Leveling as resto you will level slow unless you run instances but if the player is interested in knowing and experiencing how vast some areas are they will quest also.

well for the class its all up to you, it depends on how you want to play the game.

If you want to wear all of the armour (cloth to plate) choose a warrior.

If you want to have a cool pet by your side, choose a hunter

you want to sneak around and stab people? rogue is the way to go.

wanna do damage and heal yourself? pallies are for you.

shamans, druids, mages, warlocks, and any other class then listed above you should start on after you learn more about the game, cause there a little harder to play.

Warriors are pretty self explanatory, have alot of armour, do alot of damage.

hunters, easier to level, you barely die and fun to play

rogues, sneak past unnecessary monsters that are in the way of some place you need to go to complete a quest.

and last pallies, can heal and do damage, but imo there boring once you hit 40+.
