When is the use of violence warranted

In life, I have often been confronted with situations where I have been taunted, either verbally or physically, to physically engage someone. I am a brown belt at a local MMA place that I go to, and i am an intermediate (level 2) in Krav Maga, so I can definitely hold my own, but I usually refrain from conflict unless absolutely necessary, and feel good about it after the fact.

I just thought of this the other day when an annoying kid threw a tennis ball at me, which narrowly missed me, then he threw another, which hit me in the ear and stung like a bitch, then he threw a basketball, which hit me in the back. I just ignored him and went on with life as usual, even though I wanted to kill him for the 30 seconds after he did that.

But my question is to you, when do you feel it is right to use physical force on someone?

So if a drunk guy starts pushing you and cursing you at a bar you would just ignore him?

It also depends on the mental state of everyone,i usually get angry pretty quick and i can't refrain myself from starting a fight if the other person did something wrong to me.
The only exception is my soon-to-be wife, too much love baby haha.

Only in self-defense situations should you use violence.

There's nothing wrong with verbal abusement, especially from a stranger. However, when it comes to protecting your life, liberty, property, or loved ones, violence is warranted.

I don't think violence should be used in any cases where it isn't necessary. If lives are in danger and violence is the only way to help, do what you must, but other then that, violence should be avoided at all cost.

I feel it's right to use violence when the other person is clearly close minded.

The second the other person tries to attack or inflict any kind of harm onto you, you have the right to use physical (albeit restrained) force to protect yourself. I'm assuming you're in America, and we have to be careful as you can't go too far when "protecting" yourself or it will get you thrown in jail too for being too malicious.

    TL:DR;
They try or begin to attack you, you can knock them out.

When is the use of violence warranted

My personal opinion is that you should use violence when in danger, even small danger.
I, myself, get angry quite easily and tend to use violence when this happens.
Don't always go as others say.
Do as you believe is okay.

When is the use of violence warranted

I'd use violence if I am feeling threatened, somebody is stealing property of mine, or if a person hurts one of my family members.

When is the use of violence warranted

If your at school you have to be tough shit unless your gonna be a little bitch and let people do whatever to you and your not gonna stand up for yourself. What girl wants a guy who wont defend her if something happens and wont even defend himself?

(ps, this is not a flame, just my opinion)

It's good you ignored the person. I believe we are aggressive by nature however we can curb that and change the thought patterns by embracing assertiveness. Although if your in a different situation, I'd say self defence.

When is the use of violence warranted

I (almost) never use violence because I am scared for the consequences. Whenever someone is pissing me off or something similar I always think "If I beat him he will probably come back with loads of friends or maybe weapons the next day". But if someone starts punching/kicking me I will fight back ofcourse or atleast try to.

So if someone socks you, your sister (hypothetically), your mom, and your girlfriend in the face and starts walking away, and you know you can take them, you just stand by and watch?

I think this has to do with ones intelligence. While the use of violence does get the job done, what does it achieve? Knowing you were a bigger badass than the person that sent you over the edge? Would this not mean you are just in fact worse than him? I relate to you completely, I have taken kick boxing and jujitsu for close to five years of my life. I think knowing you could handle the situation one way, but deciding on the other makes it that much better. While walking away does seem like the weak thing to do, in the end the people that provoke such situations do not deserve any of my time nor effort. I am just bigger than that.

Personally, physical force and lethal force need to be separated. Physical force can be justified some times (even though it rarely proves anything - It's the I kicked your ass, but I pissed you off enough to confront me physically idea). Lethal force on the other hand is more clear cut in which you should only use it in life threatening (yours or other people) situations.
