I think there are some games smallchildren shouldn't play(gta) but It completely pisses me off how the media says "OMg violent games make kids angry and want to go kill people" it's so much crap. When I have had a piss bad day at school I like to go home and chill out and blow some ones head off.......

Some people believe that violence in video games tie with violence in reality. I disagree.

When my cousin (8 years old at the time) got GTA and COD, I asked ain't he a bit young for this?

I talked to my aunt, and she said it will be fine. But GTA...killing...drugs...not really a game that should be exposed to a 8 year old. COD wasn't too bad, as he just found it fun to shoot people. If he lived in the US, I would be against COD too.

Why is it worse to expose an 8 year old to CoD in the US than in Scotland?

The older generation cannot understand the new one. They think we'll all grow up into violent criminals, terrorists, etc. I strongly disagree.

I agree. An 8 year old should not be allowed to play games like GTA. Kids at that are are very influential and so should not be exposed to games that provide a means to kill for fun.

Well I wouldn't blame it solely on video games. It might be bad exposure but just switch on the news you see some pretty fucked up shit. I hate excuses if your goner end up a serial killer you been fucked up since birth, some of their cases show that nothing was ever wrong with their life they just switched mentality.

They shouldn't be a justification why they do shit. they should be locked up in mental homes!

This. There's supposed to be some case in the Supreme Court in the US that is about whether states can block the sale of M rated games to minors. IMO, it's a pointless case, because even if states block the sale, parents will still buy M rated games for their kids if the kid was already playing M rated games. If a kid goes out and buys an M rated game by themselves I think it's safe to say the parents don't even know or don't care what their kid is playing.

Parent's do this due to hearing from alot of people who are professors etc etc that it makes them do violent things. Like the guy who went on the virginia tech massacre played css. Thing's like this make parent wary of violent video games.

It is a simple one thing solves all answer that can be easily blamed. Criminals can use it as a cop-out for something they have done. Adults can use it as a reasoning for a child's poor school work, personality, and other issues.

Trust me, there are people out there that claim movies and television are the reason for society's problem, but you don't hear as much from them.

As MegaMatt said, there are ratings for everything. It's ultimately not the industry's fault if end users choose not to follow them.

I took social psychology last year, and the results were the more violent shows kids are exposed to, for longer period of time, the more likely they are to grow up and be violent.

Well that can be said for nearly anything can't it? If I live 'under a rock' my whole life I wouldn't know anything about violence. It's the same for someone growing up in a rough neighbor hood, it would become unavoidable.

I really find it as a personal take from video games, movies, television. Most people can distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy, where as some can't (the whole point of this thread).
