Good singleplayer PC games?

I am in college and looking for a good singleplayer game to mess around with during dull hours of the day. The server blocks all multiplayer games and servers, so I'm stuck with a singleplayer option.

I have been thinking about Fallout 3, because I have played it and it was fun, but I wanted to try something new.

Criteria: Not racing or sports games
RPG, Shooter(FPS or other), Strategy, Action.

Anyone got any good games?

Its a little bit older but can be much fun. Also many fans make their own mods so you can play the game a different way hundreds and hundreds of times.

Its about humans trying to take over alien planets. Eventually you can play as aliens in the missions. There are 15+ missions.

 

Rome Total War or any Total War Game, by far my favorite series. Build factions and control armies though battle.

Age of Empire is a very nice game. I often played it before i found out about runescape. You should try it out =]

Oblivion, its got the same style as Fallout 3 except it is more medieval based (it's made by the same people)

 

Counter-strike is best single player game ever
