    Definition of a vouch?

Hey, Sythe just a quick question..
I have seen on many of the more trusted users and staff members threads they use these in there vouch count

I always thought in a vouch you could only vouch them for doing something for you.
This does not seem the case and I find these everywhere.

I know it shows that staff may trust them and all but is it truly a vouch?

Please post your opinion on this topic

A vouch can be saying you trust him. It doesn't mean you need to complete a trade to vouch him.

In saying that I see people being banned for fake vouches. So people can just post. "Vouch, I trust you" on a leachers thread so they can get vouches up.

Also I am not disagreeing with anything just trying to clarify to myself and others what is a "Vouch"

    Definition of a vouch?

Vouches are just exactly what you take them for. No vouch is identical in weight. Vouches in which the person goes first, for instance are different from vouches in which the person is trusted for something. A vouch is simply a person vouching for another person for some reason or another.

Why twist the true definition of a vouch just because people have grown accustom to it being something that accompanies a trade?

The that vouch would be worth exactly what it is worth.

Fake vouches are vouches in which a person claims to place trust in another individual citing an event that never actually happened, deceiving other individuals into thinking that person has weighty reason to be trusted.

Ok Thanks for your reply clears some things up.. But in saying what you did I could vouch you for this.. "Vouch (Not Real) for v3- for being a trusted person when comes to answering questions"

Because if somebody have 20+ Vouches I and I'm sure others don't really read all the vouches on the thread so people would not notice an odd vouch here and there for things such as what I said before

Vouches are a user defined concept *from memory*. It used to only matter if it was a vouch from a mod/veteran but then it changed. However it isn't a requirement that something must be done to earn a vouch. Simple trust between the two users is enough.

    Definition of a vouch?

Sure you can say that. Vouches are not intended to be an entirely accurate way to determine trust: it is incumbent upon the user to determine the quality of a users vouches in regards to their trading merit, which is typically I base my willingness to trade with a member not based on quantity, but rather quality (specifically $ traded).

And playing off of what Frank said, it is simply a statement of trust. Given that you have cited two of my vouches as an example, I would easily say that I could trust either one of those members who vouched for me in a similiar fashion that they have placed faith in me. It does not have to accompany a transaction, and a transaction occurring does not necessarily warrant a vouch.

I'd advise to go with quality over quantity also. It matters more how much $ and who they are from then how many vouches you have.

Thats for everybody's replies and thanks for answering my question. Unless anybody has further questions this can be closed.

@ Plznate - You should take that as a compliment because I found that most trusted people had these style vouches and you were one of the first highly trusted people that came to mind :)

Vouches are basically saying you trusted them with your items/account/money and they successfully did the trade with you.
