Drop a new engine in it, I was looking at b18's, but theyre pricey as heck.
does anyone know an alternative engine that i could drop in it? thatll still be fast but a little/lot cheaper?

 

To be honest you don't really need to tweak the engine, you probably won't be racing anyways

I autocross and I've always wanted to do a K series swap in my '01 2dr EX. What's you budget? Auto or 5sp?

 

there is no budget really, i just wanna get a better deal.
right now its auto, but my dude is gonna throw a 5sp tranny on it for me and make it so its a 5sp.

There is absolutely no reason to put an expensive engine in a Honda, ever. Unless you're really into racing and you have potential to make money from it, don't do it. Even if you can potentially make money from it, don't do it. Not only can you get a much better car with a better engine for the money, but you're probably not going to drive over 70 MPH 95% of the time.

Not to mention engine swaps are NOT cheap. My friend who gets good deals on mechanic work spent $600 on the engine swap alone. Not to mention an automatic-manual swap will cost you about $1000 just in labor. If you get a new tranny, which you would want to unless you don't care about your new engine or your car at all, that will set you back probably another $1500-2000.

Just saying.. for a honda, it's not worth it. Maybe if you had a car that retails at about $35,000, then an engine and tranny swap would be worth it, considering you have money to throw away.

Go with a H22 or a K20

But you're going to also need a tranny if you're not going to do a b swap,this will also cost around 1.5-3 grand.

Alright -- if it's something you really want to do I would go with a K20A engine swap. It would also be worth throwing on some skunk2 coilovers and dropping it from stock height about 1.5 inches.

Laws are getting stricter and stricter regarding racing. In ontario if you're over the speed limit by 50km/h they give you a huge fine and impound your car.

Not worth it imo. Plus, your insurance rate will spike after getting caught for street racing, have fun paying premiums.

 

That's why you go with organized racing. SCCA, etc. It's not about making money, it's a sport like anything else that you spend money on for recreational reasons. K20A in any Honda is worth it if your willing to invest in the proper modifications.. you have to, to make it worth it. Otherwise you've got wasted torque in the low gears.
