Why is volleyball classified as such a feminine sport? I personally play it, and there's nothing better than the feeling of doming someone, whether it be a smash or a block.

    Discuss, porfavor.

    It's the knee pads.

Also the team meeting in the middle of their side after every point they score for a mini celebration.

Lol, so it's dissed because of the safety equipment? That's like saying REAL football players shouldn't wear cups/any padding.

In almost any and all sports people do some type of celebratory thing when they score. Volleyball is a fast paced game, so it happens more often than other sports. Normally it's just a clap, but if it was a sick play there might be more.

I play volleyball and TBH I don't think it is a feminine sport at all. If i had to guess i would say the feminine aspect came from girls playing beach volleyball ;)

To my knowledge you're not required to ware knee pads, my team went to provincials this year and only one person on my team wore them. Even still that does not make the sport feminine what-so-ever >.< It hurts like a bitch diving for the ball on your knees without the pads.

Lol, beach volleyball is fun too. Is it because it was mainly played by girls FIRST? In my opinion, guys playing SOFTBALL is a girly sport. Baseball was already there, and then girls came up with softball. But it's not like there's an alternative sport with volleyball.

How is that not "manly"? The guy can fucking fly, then smash a ball like 200 mph into the ground lol.

    EDIT:

+1, getting burns on your knees hurts like a bitch.

Can't agree with you there, although softball is a suppose a bit less manly then most sports i like to think of it as the "lazy man's baseball" when men play it. It's pretty fun for a Sunday afternoon to go out, have a few beer and play softball.

Nice video! Hard to believe anyone could consider this feminine

Well, I take that back then. I've never personally played softball, I guess I'll have to try it. Well worded, "lazy man's baseball" lol.

I understand that volleyball is consider a sport for women, but I personally am a fan of the sport. I think this thread is funny because my girlfriend actually plays volleyball and I do not.

Although, I believe volleyball is a girls sport because it is hardly ever introduced to boys at a young age. The first time I played volleyball was in middle school, and when I started I thought it was stupid. After playing for a while and learning about the rules I found out that it really is a fun and exciting sport.

I really wish I would have started playing volleyball earlier in my life, and I know I will introduce it to my kids early in their lives.

It's considered a woman's sport because mostly women play it. The males that I know that play try to act like girls so they can 'fit in'.

I'd also change that sentence. It sure makes it sound like something else.

Same here, I hated volleyball up until about my freshman year of high school, then started playing recreational games with friends. It wasn't until my Junior year I actually tried out. Got onto the Varsity team and had a blast.

I don't quite get that first part, about the guys acting like girls..?

And getting nailed in the face is called getting "domed", it works perfectly fine. Just certain people feel the need to twist it into something else.

My 2 brothers and I play for our school, Older brother was varsity as well as me. Little brother is going to be JV.

My dad also plays in the Mens-45's Nationals. They usually come in 1st-3rd every year. He's been playing for over 35 years...

I agree 100%. I'm fed up with the typical response of, "go play a real sport".

That's awesome man, I hope I'll be doing that when I'm in my 40s.

It is a lot of fun =D

I play volleyball+beach volleyball. I'm probably getting a scholarship (full ride) for it also. Its a fun sport because there is no running. Most people think its for fags because they don't want to get hit in the face with balls. (Semi-pun)

Beach waaaaay harder though. Here in California, every beach has pros playing pick up games against anyone that dares challenge them. My sister/I got smashed by Tod Rodgers and his wife.

Sports where basically teams don't interact with each other aren't considered manly sports (not my opinion.) There's a net that separates the teams in volleyball from potential brawls. There's no physical contact AT ALL.

Volleyball is one of the funnest sports to play if you have the right people. We don't have a team for it in our high school, but we usually play it in our gym class, and it can get pretty intense.

I think the only reason people call it a 'girl' sport is because of the spankies (short shorts). Otherwise, it's a sport for both sexes.

There's no physical contact in tennis; that doesn't make it a 'manly' sport?

Sorry for two posts; I'm on my iPod.

Exactly. Compare it to rugby; what do you think is a manlier sport?

I think your just scared of some kid slamming a ball in your face.

This sport is harder then whatever you play. In football, basketball, golf, tennis, baseball, etc; the ball can hit the floor.
