OMM's

When you are in need of a Moderator, you can scroll to the bottom of the page, view everyone online, and see the names in Red/Light blue to know the moderators, and for admins, yellow.

Quite alot of the time, people need OMM's to complete successful trades, what about giving the OMM a color green or something?

So we can scroll to the bottom, look at all the users online, and the peoples name with green are the OMM's, so we know which OMM's are online, etc.

I am not sure how I feel about this. I think the real issue that needs to be decided is, are OMM's considered staff? They are deemed "official", and seem to be recognized as staff by most (they are listed on the staff changes thread as well), yet in other areas, they are left out (such as you cannot leave feedback for OMM's in the "staff: feedback forums).

Okay, just thought an official middleman is quite a big position, especially in the market section, if people want to make trades safely, then they are very important, finding, and pming them would be much easier.

I know where the OMM list is, but from that list you do not have their profile link, and do not know if they are online at the time you are making the trade

 

Then why are they on the staff changes thread?

My point exactly, either give us credit as staff, or do not. This half and half business gets annoying.

Eh, as stated by Nate the whole Staff or not controversy needs to be solved.. We are mentioned on the staff changes page, but we aren't staff.
OMM is just a earned position through MiddleManning so it isn't staff.

Probably because OMM are promoted to their positions in a similar manner to the way that staff are. Regardless, it is erroneous to conclude based on that, that OMM are staff members. Staff members ave access to the staff lounge, modcp, can infract users, etc. These are things that OMM simply cannot do, so OMM are not and have never been considered to be staff members.

There is no "controversy", it's merely a misunderstanding. Anyway, I pm'd Tyro to rename his thread to reflect the fact that OMM aren't staff members.

 

We're not staff. Take it from an ex-mod who's seen the arguments transpire. We don't represent the site at all. We're just here to help people trade.

 

It has been a contentious issue for a very long time now. I remember in 2007 when I was an Official Middleman and made a similar suggestion.

Ultimately, coloured names are used as a definitive line between staff and non-staff. We could make a lot of money by selling out coloured names as other sites do, but we value the distinct colour-dictated boundary between staff and members too greatly to move away from the system we have currently.

Middlemen do have a rank and can be found quite easily on the Official Middleman list, but they are not staff members and as such cannot be given coloured names.
