How to Unfreeze an MSN

    How to Unfreeze an MSN
    This method only works if you have a recovery question set!​


    Hey guys. Hahanerd45 here with my 3rd guide on my quest to becoming a User Educator. Lately, I have noticed more and more people having their MSN's frozen by MSN bots. I've found a way (with special thanks to Skele_Master) to unfreeze an MSN if you've been a target of an MSN freezer.


    1. Go to login.live.com. Next, click on 'Forgot a password?'

    2. You will be taken to a screen that looks like the picture below. Put in the MSN of the frozen account and type in the confirmation code, and click continue.

    3. Next, you will be taken to a screen that gives you 2 options; 'send yourself a password reset e-mail message' and 'provide account information and answer your secret question.' You want to click the second option.

    4. It will now take you to a page asking you to confirm your account information. Put in your country, state, zip code, and it will ask you to put in your security question that you set up when you registered your MSN. Click continue.

    5. You are now unfrozen, BUT not for long. Now here's the most important step. You will be taken to new page, that looks like the following picture. Next to this screen, pop up your Windows Live Messenger and quickly sign in. If you log in quick enough, you will beat the bot that is freezing your MSN. If you aren't fast enough, then you will have to repeat the following steps.

    6. Congratulations, your MSN is now unfrozen and you can log into it!

    Note: Some people will have to repeat the above steps every time they want to log in. Others won't.

    Nice guide, extremely helpful, the pictures could use some resizing (Try thumbnailing them) And you could use some formatting, nice overall guide.

    Nice guide, this is a prevalent guide now most of all because all of the kids freezing MSN just for the hell of it.

    I'm going to be really picky here, but consider it a favour rather than criticism. I've pointed out all the grammar errors that I can see, and re-worded some of the poorly worded sentences for you. Good luck on your user education application!


    Lately, I have noticed more and more people having their MSN's frozen by MSN bots.

    To unfreeze an MSN if you've been a target of an MSN freeze.

    You will be taken to a screen that looks like the picture below.

    Put in the MSN of the frozen account and type in the confirmation code, now click continue.

    Next, you will be taken to a screen which contains 2 options:

    (Colon, not semi colon. Also worded it better for you).

    Put in your country, state, zip code, and it will ask you to put in your security question

    You are now unfrozen, BUT not for long. Now here's the most important step. You will be taken to a new page that looks like the following picture. Adjust the window along with your MSN sign in window so you can press sign in as soon as you reset your password. If you log in quick enough, you will beat the bot that is freezing your MSN. If you aren't fast enough, then you will have to repeat the above steps.


    6. Congratulations, your MSN is now unfrozen and you can log into it!

    Note: Some people will have to repeat the above steps every time they want to log in. Others wont.

    Thanks to the help of Gurtaton, this method only works if you own a @hotmail.com domain. It doesn't work on @live.com. Sorry for the confusion.
