Staff Getting Their MSN's Hacked

What is up with everyone getting their MSN's taken over? I just sent $15 to OMM and Global Moderator Tyro, thinking I was buying pins, and then of course I find out his MSN has also been compromised. There's 4 people in this announcement thread that have lost their MSN recently:

An announcement thread isn't noticeable enough. I think a PM should be sent to all members when a OMM/staff has lost their MSN.

 

That would take long time to send everybody an PM of it..

Probably a keylogger going around. Also like Pekko said it would take way to long to pm every single member every times a staff member or OMM's msn got hacked.

 

No. It isn't a keylogger but a technique used to get any @hotmail.com or @live.com email account. I think it's called reverting or something like that.

 

On a forum like this it should be easy enough for an admin to just send a pm to all members. It wouldn't take any more time than it takes to send a PM to one person.

 

The hackers are using a method called the msn revert trick. They get all information possible on you, and then pretty recover the msn. Try not to give out any personal details, and you should be fine. Also check your msn regularly to make sure it isn't hacked/under attack so that you can take the precautions needed.

 

The announcement is ONLY at the top of every forum. PM would clog the server. No support.

 

The announcement was at the top of every forum and he mentioned that his msn was hacked in his signature. Considering everyone that was scammed didn't bother to ask for a PM or even check his profile, I doubt sending out PM's would help a great deal. Nevertheless, if it can be easily done, this would be a good idea.

 

Sythe staff should have @sythe.org emails, they're considerably harder to hack as they aren't hotmail email accounts and can't be "reverted".

 

sythe has to be the number on rs trading for staff saying they were hacked.

shouldnt staff have to give a resonable amount of proof to show they were hacked saying ahh i was hacked dont trade me really doesnt make much of a diffrence if you already have that mod added from previous trades your most likly not going to request another pm.

Also its their email so they should have to refund everyone scammed up to 24 hours of them declaring being hacked(as long as they have proof of trading with the hacked persons email address) This should allow a decent amount of time for the public to be aware.

also mabey they could just have hacked emails of mods MM's and admins scroll across the top of the screen where it'll be seen more

i did like the idea of mass email to all sythe members that would get to everyone.

 

If you use MSN, you have to register your email account with Hotmail, irrespective of the domain the address is aligned with.

 

This, if any hack msn scam somone the person should pay back all that was losts.

 

Isn't there a safer program for them to chat to sythe members with? Such as have there private msns obviously, but then use something such as Skype to trade with other members (I don't know how easy skype is to hack compared to msn) for example.

This would mean no easy msns to hack which means the problem wouldn't be here.

Yes, This is probably a good idea if it is easy enough. I have been apart of many forums and we often received PMs about various stuff from the forum admins and mods. If it can be done, why not?

 

Same here. I've gotten plenty of chainmails from mods on various other VB forums.

 

This forum has 218,942 members. I've never run a vBulletin forum, which is what Sythe is, but I have run phpBB. In phpBB, you would simply write the pm and send it to the group "Registered Users". This would get it to all 218,942. As for how much power this would require from the server, I don't know. Even 218k probably wouldn't take that much, as pm's are only a few kilobytes in size.

 

If a normal user gets his msn hacked and the compromised msn scams, (from the ban reports I read) has to pay the user back because "He is responsible for his msn". So why doesn't this apply to staff members?
