That's about the 4th time in 3 weeks Norton has blocked a attack like that. I'm currently scanning with avast. Any idea what it is?

    Well,

On vista a few days ago there was an update to stop remote hackers gaining access to your system through a vulnerability in windows shell.

    Did you install this?

    check your installed updates list.

its likely to be a R.A.T inserted into ur system without u noticing because u may of downloaded a file, just letting you know, ppl bind and crypt the file and attach it onto a file and no antivirus can detect it. btw if it is a RAT that means ppl can do anything to ur computer without u knowing, like controlling ur mouse, formatting your computer, taking pictures of you if u have a webcam without knowing.

the best thing to do a clean format of your computer because there is no way of getting rid of RATS there undetectable

Don't consider this spam, but Norton is really bad for getting rid of viruses, Avira or Microsoft Security Essentials, they both normally get rid of viruses.
On the topic, have you tried a system restore, go back a few days before the virus popped up.

Unless you have something really special in a game, or you have a person extremely angry at you - it's probably not a serious infection. A lot of RATs are detected before you can even open them especially if they're not professional ones.

There are a lot of little hacker-wannabes around here. They wouldn't dare touch your credit card because they'd be fined beyond belief by actual law. You should still get rid of it, but don't worry about the credit card information. Your sythe account, runescape/wow or any other game accounts are the only thing in danger unless you have a weirdo who only likes to stalk you in webcam.

Considering your AV is catching it every time - you don't really HAVE to reformat (And by reformat I mean return to factory settings, not restore to earlier because the infection would be in your win32 folders) unless you're really nervous about it.

I suggest using something called MalwareBytes, which is really excellent for removing a lot of Malware, I'm sure a lot of other users use the same thing.

If rats are undetectable, then why did his Norton scan find an infection?
    It's not a rat. -.-

If something needed to attack your computer it would of had done it already... Especially if you only have Norton

Just do a system restore for a week before your problems. Save all your files on a SD card or a Sandisk.

System restore does not get rid of viruses.

It's a common misconception. Viruses can infect files before system restore can make a copy, and more importantly, viruses can infect files in the system restore archive. It's actually better that you disable system restore entirely.
